Question - What type of training/nutrional changes do you make the week prior to your competition. I'm not going to compete, but I've set a goal on my cutting phase to be in my best possible shape on June 13. This date is fast approaching.
Well, I know a lot of you competetive bodybuilders have little tricks and tid-bits that you do to manipulate how you look on the day of the contest. You know, water/sodium intake, carb intake, etc...
Do any of you care to share your secrets with us weekend-warriors.
I'll give you a very general outline of what can be a very individual process that is based on many factors. The following will work pretty well for anyone, however.
1-carb deplete...cut carbs in half for 3 days...make up with lost calories with protein and fat...drink tons of water during this time...keep sodium up
2-carb load...double NORMAL carb intake for 2 days...eat regular protein and fat...cut water intake in half from carb up days...drop sodium to minimal, but not zero
*during carb deplete days, train the whole body each day with one exercise per bodypart and 15-20 reps
*during carb load days, do not train, but pose and flex the muslces 2 x per day for 15-20 minutes
Those are some basics...

What about the morning of the show. Is their anything you can share (without giving away your secrets ) about how you would prepare nutritionally the day of the show.
The morning of a show I will usually consume some sodium and sugar containing foods...a breakfast of 3-4 whole eggs and some pancakes with syrup works well. The key is...drink zero water with it. The sodium and sugar will fill your veins and muscles, but without drinking water you will not spill into your skin. This ONLY works, however, if you are already in very ripped and dry condition.
