My wife and I have been weight training for about two years and are completely addicted to the lifestyle. Like most people probably do on this site, as I am walking out of the gym from one work out, I am think about my next workout, wondering how my body is going to react from the punishment I have inflicted on it. As I eat my meal #2, I am thinking about what I am going to eat for meal #3. It has become an obsession. And a healthier obsession than the one I had for Popeye's Fried Chicken and McD's French Fries.
If I needed any reason to get more pumped up about hitting the gym, we went to our first fitness show, which was the Night of the Champions Womens show this past Friday. If you are feeling unmotivated and need a kick in the ass, go to a show! If seeing all of these beautifully fit people there who are because they believe in the power of the gym doesn't motivate you, you may be dead.
The biggest highlight was that as I walk in, standing right in front of me, was Gunter. Now I know that many of you work/compete and this is not a big deal, but for me, where most of my friends think that a good bicep curl is lifting the Big Mac, this is huge, almost as huge as Gunter. To me, this is no different from a basketball fan meeting Michael Jordan. I brought a shirt (which I may wear to all my workouts from now on) and took a couple of pictures with him (which I will post on the site). I hope I spoke coherently as I him this is his year to win the O.
What I was most impressed with was the size and beauty of the women BB's. There is the stereotype that they are just big and manly looking (and trust me, there are some of those). But looking at Betty Viana, Denise Masino and others, you cant help but be impressed with these woman who have done tremendous things with their bodies, while still retaining the essence of what it means to be a woman.
Going to the show also helped me confirmed where I want my body to go. Seeing Dennis James, Milos Sarcev and Gunter, I know that I could never be that big, or would ever want to. But seeing them you can't help but be amazed at their accomplishments.
I am looking forward to starting my gym week knowing that even though I may never be the size or muscularity of Gunter or even Lenda Murray, I know that we are all in the same fraternity of gym rats. And that gets me as pumped up as a workout!
Because I'm not on an Atkins Diet nor would I ever do one. I'm a BB not a dieter! - Jodi
