BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS High Quality Supplements For Bodybuilders and Athletes. www.ironmaglabs.com Alright you guys have got me convinced into doing deadlifts. I once did them and them stop because of the infection I got on my shins from the scrapes and tears on them. They could never heal because every week I would tear them more. That was 2 years ago. I've gain a lot of weight since then, so I figured they did help anyway. I reconsider now after joining this site.
SO if any of you guys want to give me some suggestions on reps and sets I would appreciate it very much. I'm going to try them out tomorrow for the first time in two years with some guys at the gym to get the movement again and then I will be ready to do what ever ya tell me. |

to prevent the scrapes you could wear soccer shin pads, sounds kinda weird but i have seen some of the big boys at my gym do it so maybe you could give that a try.

When you do deadlifts you scrape the bar on your shins and knees? Odd...I never do, maybe you form is wrong? I don't know..but I never had that problem.

well, I'm 6' and I haven't had a problem. What is your form when you do it? Try doing what seyone said and see if that makes a difference.

Mule,
I have never hit my shins either. Try this for form, on regular wide grip deads as a gauge on your form, when the plates are just touching the floor the inside of your elbows SHOULD be touching the outsides of your knees with your knees slightly bent. If do sumo style then just the opposite. If your elbows are below your knees, your bending them too much and above not enough. Then I just pyramid up in weight after a couple warm ups. I never go lower than 4 reps and I try and do deads last, they take everything I got out of me. |

If that doesn't work, you could just do Straight Leg Deadlifts...they don't work the legs as much, but they are harder, but they do work your back more.

Do them at the begining of your work out. Do 3 warm up sets ie: 135x8, 175x6, 205x5 Then 2 work sets in the 8-10 rep range lets say if you use 225x8 x 2 sets. do both sets to failure... but above all use good form. I believe if you really push yourself/HIT all you'll need is the 2 work sets... maybe even one. Good luck ------------------ Thoughts are more powerful then Matter |

I realy like doing deadlifts, I think its one of my favorite moves. I've noticed as the weight goes up, the bar has been rubbing my legs a little more so I guess I'll have to get some shin pads one day. (I hope) ------------------ Just another day in the gutter |

Yes they do also work your back, as a secondary muscle. Just like legs are secondary on regular deads

deadlifts are the best overall builder for muscle. you cant avoid the scraping on your legs but it sounds like your form might be a little off if its bothering you that bad. or your doing them to frequently. i wouldnt do them any more than every 10 days. d- lifts are very draining on the body and are not to be over used. low reps in the 3-8 area are best to keep form tight. my set mode is such as this 6-6-6-6-and 1 max set of 6-7. this is my pyramid weight range 135,185,225,275.335. the prior 4 sets are getting form and warm up down, and my 335 is the most weight i can go to failure. low reps are better because you dont want your endurance giving out befor you r strenth. if this happens you lose form. i would also only do them 3 times a month and take a couple months off. email me if you would like some more of my training methods.
