    Bench press

how far should you go up on your bench press because i see a lot of guys in the gym that don't go very far off of there chest? also, should you lock your elbows at the top or is that bad because your taking a break?

I suppose its a personal preference, I would not exactly say I lock it out and hold it (resting on the joints) but I go "all the way."

DO NOT LOCK YOUR ELBOWS!!!!!!!!! It is not only potentially dangerous, but it also makes the exercise less effective.

I should be banned from answering this, as I just tore something in my shoulder benching.

    So I will refrain.

Yeah you should always stretch your shoulders before benching cause you can mess then up pretty bad.

I agree with the others, go as far up as you can without locking elbows.

TP, I used to not warm up (years ago) but these days I do a couple warmup sets, I suppose you usually do too. Slower progress seems to help, but benching seems to be a semi-random problem for anyone into the 400+ range.

Guy who recently started his own board, tore his pec and lat doing benches, he has a huge bruise running along the right side of his body and can barely move.

The really TP is also highly sarcastic.

The real TP also likes fucking with newbies who provide advice to him like reminding him to stretch.

Does anyone really think I tried benching 435 cold?
