    Bicep tear

I have a friend who tore his bicep. He said it was from not stretching before working out and going straight into a dumbbell curl (95 lbs.). He said on about the second lift of the dumbbell he felt it tear.

He had to have surgery and supposedly the doctor said he may never be able to work out again. The tear was really bad as you could see how the muscle had seperated from the top of his arm.

He has been working out pretty consistiently for about the last five years.

Does anyone know if this sounds like it could just be from not stretching or do you think there was some other type of problem?

Any opinions are welcome as being new to this and I want to make sure not to injure myself in this type of way as dumbbell curls are included in my workout. I always stretch but I am pretty freaked to think you could damage yourself that bad from just not stretching.

For a guy to be dumbell curling 95 pounds, I have to assume he was juicing.

In which case, he may well have been using something that degenerates the tendons, like winstrol, which makes them grow but degrades them.

Still though, when people start getting twice as strong as a normal man, shyt happens.

A (distal) bicep tear that is repaired by a Doctor will "usually" return to be as strong as it was before the tear. This will take about a years time with progressive training. After a years training, there is no difference in the way the bicep looks, except for the 2-3 inch scar in the forearm. The tendon will be as strong if not stronger than one that is still naturally attached.

If he was doing DB curls with 95lbs my bet is he had shit form and cheated his way to a tear......no reason in hell to do an isolation movement with that kind of weight...

I bet he's just an idiot who tried to curl a 95 dumbbell when he couldn't. Bad idea.
