Tennis Elbow?

Anyone ever had a problem with tennis elbow? I'm thinking that is what I have.

It is starting to cause me problems when doing forearm workouts (reverse barbell curls kill me). Haven't noticed a problem with my other lifts yet.

Any suggestions or experiences on getting over tennis elbow? Should I just lay off the forearms workouts for a while? I tried taking Tylenol before lifting the other day and it seemed to help, but will I just aggravate the problem if use a pain killer before lifitng?

I am a born again believer of Glucosaine, chrondrotin and MSM supplements for joint and tendon injuries and soreness. Look into them

This happened to me with skullcrushers. After a weeks rest I just made sure I had a death grip on the bar and it stopped. I also used one of those ace bandages for the elbow for a month.

Guess I should have mentioned, the injury isn't from lifting. I moved into a new home last year and this summer was "do the yard" time. I think I raked my yard fifty times. The injury I believe came from the repetitive motion of ENDLESS raking. . .

ArduousMeister. . . any recommendations on brand, where to get the stuff you mentioned and dosage?

Thanks all. . .

I have been uising a product called FlexAnew made by Natrol. I just did a quick search for it and found this www.willner.com/FlexAnew.htm which does a good job of explaining it.

TapRackBang,

I have had the same thing for at least six months, mostly from using a grinder a lot when I'm working. It can get pretty painful sometimes. I take Glucosamine & Chondroitin, not sure it helps or not, but I would recommend taking it even if you didn't have problems.

ArduousMeister,

What is MSM? Do think soaking the elbow in ice would do any good? It hasn't gotten much worse, and wide grip chins seem to irritate the most. I think I will keep training unless it gets worse.

Cut and paste from a website:

"MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is a naturally-occurring bioactive form of sulfur that provides antioxidant activity and supports a healthy inflammation response. MSM is the third most abundant nutrient in your body and is found in highest concentration during infancy, and diminishes as we age. It is also present in whole fresh fruits, vegetables, grains and milk. MSM is ideal for those looking for an additional tool in providing total joint support. MSM works well with Xtra Strength Glucosamine and Chondroitin."

Ever since I have injured my rotator cuff I have been doing some very extensive reading on the internet from various websites about the benefits of these supplements. There are alot of other products out there that claim to do the samething but are more expensive and are basically compounds of all three of these components.

As far as iceing goes I would imagine that it couldn't hurt but I am not a an expert of any kind. Possibly one of the other IM members reading this can help you out on this one.

Thanks,

Is this MSM the same stuff people were recommending for
sleep problems a few years back?
