    Turn muscle

Hi, hope some of you can remember me, I been out for a few months. Well here I am to ask for your opinions once again. My shoulder has been f**ked up for the past 5 weeks. I though it was nothing to worry about, now it is starting to worry me. It’s been five weeks and I can not even bench 135lbs. My coach tells me he thinks I have a torn muscle. I just wanted to know if any of you have gone thru something like this before and how did you recover, how long? Can you make a full recovery from this without having to go thru surgery? I don’t want to go to the doc, if they tell me I need surgery I’ll most likely be out for some part of my football season and I’m trying to avoid that. Any opinions are very well appreciated.

1)Yes it can be healed w/out surgery, but you won't know til u get it checked out.

2)How old are you? Think of how the rest of your life would be if you totally f-ed up your shoulder by playing when it was torn and injuring it more.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

Sure. On one practice I was playing defense and I went to make a hit, well hit the guy in the air, and as I was coming down the first thing that hit the ground was my shoulder, and in a bad position. I seriously felt like I had broken my shoulder in half. Shoulder turned black and so did the area around my biceps, one big bruise. After 3 weeks the bruise went away but can no were near use that arms as I used too. I know I have to be making improvement because the 2nd week of me getting injured I would not even be able to pick the 45lb bar alone from the bench. Today I picked up 135lbs with a little pain nothing to serious but was not able to come up with the weight. But today I got scared because one of the coached told me if I didn’t get the muscle reattached it would limit my strength eventually. That’s why I came to you guys for your opinions

Is your coach a person who can determine this? If not, like Prince said, supply more info on your injury. Was it football related, lifting related ect. Have you tried rotator cuff exercises if it is shoulder related.
And you say you don't want to go to the doc. Well, you should!

Yes its football related. I have done rotator cuff exercises because at 1st I could barely move my arm to the sides, forward and the one that hurtled the most was moving it back. Now I can move it fine as long as I don’t have any weights in my hand.

If the muscle was totally detached then he would be right, if it was partially torn let it rest. You may have dislocated it. I would get it looked at, if the doctor tells you not to play you can always ignore his advice. At least then you will know what is going on.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

I’m 17. Yes I have though of the consequences of making it even worst by playing. But this is my senior year and I can’t stand watching a game from the bench. I’ll probably end up going to have it checked out and be sure, it the doctor gives me bad news I’ll stay out. But 1st I wanted to hear you guys opinion on this kind of injury, before I go to the doctor.

If it was honestly detached you want to fix that PRONTO, not weeks or even months later. True seperation is critical to be fixed right away otherwise that is basically the end, you are at least young though so your healing will probably be better than those who are older.

Someone who had thier bicep seperated about a year ago got it re-attached I believe within 3 days. Someone else tore the same pec twice, had it re-attached twice, and now only does dumbell presses but I dont know the time to medical attention for him.

From what I hear even with bad tears though, I'm going to assume you would hardly be able to move, put on a T shirt, without crying in excrutiating pain and taking an hour to do it.

hmmm...very interesting, and difficult to diagnose over the net.

it does not sound like a detached muscle to me, especially due to the cause of the injury, it could be nerve related.

can you list more of the symptoms, like exactly where you feel pain, is there numbness, etc.

either way, you should have a doc take a look at this, the last thing you want to do is make it worse, or go any longer without surgery if that is necessary.

What I don't get is, he keeps saying he doesn't want to miss out on the season, but as it is he can't do anything because his shoulder is bothering him.

This has already been said, but let me reiterate and make it clearer.

    GO SEE A DOCTOR!

This is the best advice in this thread so far.

Yes I do have a shoulder that I can barely use but I got a big heart, and I play with a broken neck if I have to. It’s a felling you many not know much about. I’m still starting DT. The only thing I’m not starting at is OT that I used to do when I was healthy.

Yes after playing for some time my shoulder starts to get numb and I can barely move the arm. It may not be a turn muscle because it not like it hurts all the time. The pain in on the top of my biceps were it’s joining the shoulder, all the way thru there. It covers all that area around there and when it is really hurting bad I can even feel some small pain in the neck nothing big but it gets very annoying. What I was worried about was a turn muscle, but from what Mudge say I don’t think that’s was I have. Thank you to all of you who tried to help, I really appreciate it. By the way we won our 3rd game of our season today were're 2-1

Personally, I think you dislocated it and when it went back in you pinched a nerve which is causing you problems so stop being a pussy and hit those weights. Just kidding about the pussy part.

Lol, I do work out, just not the upper body. I tried benching all the past weeks and I’m telling you just getting it off the rack is a challenge, and when getting it up I just can’t, because of the pain but also because I feel like have no strength there, shiat even when I sneeze it hurts lol.

As I suspected in my previous post this seems to be nerve related, most likely the brachial plexus nerve that runs from your back, across your shoulder and down your arm.

It might be a good idea to see a doctor about this, either a shoulder specialist or a neurologist.

I separated my shoulder when I was 16. It popped right back in though. It hurt real bad for a couple of days but was weak for quite a while. It popped out a couple more times over the next 3 months until I quit trying to do stuff it and just do rehab. The trainer just had me do deltoid exercises with light weights. Lay on my back with my arm out to my side and hold a 3 lb. weight and make little circles clockwise, then counter clockwise. Then do the same laying on my stomach and standing up. This way it strengthened all of the basic muscles that hold the shoulder into the socket.

My brother dislocated his shoulder riding motocross. His was much worse and he had to have some tendons reattached.

For me, his doc said that if I had not layed off, it would have become a chronic problem and continued to pop out. The tendons would have all gotten stretched out so they would not hold it in anymore.

    Your choice is,
    1) play and possible screw yourself up for life, or
    2) see the doc and see if rehab is good enough or if your need surgery.

Trust me, 20 year from now you are not going to remember anything about those football games, but your shoulder witll still be attached, good or bad. I guaranted that you will want it to be in good shape.
