Bump
Anyone?
I just fucked up my lower back. Putting a dumb bell back on the rack and Bam!!!! I don't know what happened. Anyway, does any body have any tricks to reduce the aftermath of this kind of shit. I put some heat on right away for about an hour took some IB and plan to ice on and off and stretch when I get home from work.
Does anyone have any thing they do for acute lower back to shorten the process of pain and rest?
Thanks

Ice, rest, and ibuprofen for the first 72 hours. (I do not recommend stretching, heat or massage during this period.)
Unfortunately the lower back, not only is it vulnerable, but it also takes the longest time to heal. Depending on the severity you could be out of the gym for up to a week.
I hate to tell you this but heat was just about the worse thing you could have done. You should always ice for at least 36 - 48 hours on and off after the injury occurs to prevent swelling and inflamation. After that period of time then apply heat, however heat directly after will increase inflamtion.
Good luck

Damn, I hate it when that happens. This has happened to me a couple of times, but during every day activities, not during lifting. One time I was just walking around the apartment and BAM my lower back just gave out on me. It felt better after a few days of rest.
My doctor siad to use ice 20 minutes on/20 off.
I've had the same thing happen judt pulling off
my work boots. Usually it was better after a few days.
But the last time, it was at least a month.
I make it a habit of stretching at least once a day.

Yea, the heat was not a good thing. When I got home I iced it on and off all night. It seems like a muscle strain not a nerve. It hurts like hell but feels a bit like it's healing. Going to the doc for blood work today so I am going beg for some thing to get rid of the pain. This sucks!!!! It feels like at least a week out of the gym......
Thanks for the reply's
Dude it might be more than a week...I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago and it was a herniated disc. I'd suggest going to a physio or althletic therapist if you can to get it really checked out.
Other than that all the suggestions above work great, but you're going to be out of commission for a while. It took me a week just to feel normal again and about a month before I even thought about lifting again.
