top 3 upper body muscles IMO

for me these are the top 3 muscles in the upper body and make you look the biggest.

#1 deltoids- i think that having huge deltoids will make you look wider that you actually are and will help in the classic v shaped body
#2 chest- i think a huge chest is very key to having a great upper body
#3 lats- having wide lats gives you the image that you are extremely wide and i think they are very important.

what do you guys think are the 3 top upper body muscles and the ones that make you look the widest and biggest???

Of course those are the "top 3" muscles in the upper body and make you look the biggest, thats because they ARE the biggest 3 muscles in the upper body....

You are correct that delts do give you a wider look when the middle deltoid is well developed, it sort of "pops" out.

Chest is the centerpiece of your upper torso, so a big chest does make you look bigger, but if your chest and traps are too big in proportion to your delts and lats, you have too much of a sloping, narrow look.

Lats, along with the rest of the back, are the second biggest muscles on your body, only smaller than your legs. Again, if youre lats/back are too small in proportion to your chest, your physique is out of proportion.

Don't forget the waistline though! Guys at my gym are bigger than me sizewise in the upper body, but because i have a pretty narrow waist, the it gives the illusion of having a bigger upper body...hence the classic v-taper.

Most "ignorant" BB's prioritize the "showy" muscles... chest, bi's and traps, while they sport chicken legs, a flat and narrow back, small arms (tris constitute 2/3 of your arms), no calves and pencil forearms.

Good BB's assess their physique and really focus on their weakpoints, trying to even out their whole body, while the majority only bang away on the "showy" muscles.

True bodybuilding is having a well balanced, symmetrical, proportioned physique (and of course the fun part is seeing how huge you can get with those other qualities).

Due to genetics and prioritizing, everyone will sport strengths and weaknesses when it comes to muscle development, but good BB's work their ass off to "bring up" those weakpoints....

TRAPS, there is no top 3. If you have no traps you look like sh!t IMO. Traps help give the illusion of width and taper all around just as the others are important too. I love when my traps are full and the shoulders come off of them rounded and leaned out a little, along with the chest and then the back it ALL comes together.

    chest is number 1!

    then delts and traps

I now work them 3 muscles twice a week and other bodyparts once a week, once I get bigger in these areas I'll be looking good

they are the most important muscles for looking big, thats just my opinion

I dunno... I think my heart is more important than any of those muscles listed.

Not sure I can agreee with you on them all being equally important though.
There are many smaller muscles that could be removed and you would not even notice.

it was just a general statement used to get the point across that, you should take all the muscles equally seriously. I didn't literally mean it like i said I suppose, you get my drift though I'm sure

I'd love to see more people subscribing to this notion. There are also so many small muscles around your spine that are far more important than any large muscles simply for things like movement and protection.

Think of where all movement comes from...if you can't move your back and core muscles then you can't even lift your arms above your head properly. These muscles are way more important in terms of functionality.

As for just looking good, then I always look at someone who has the classic V-shape...wide lats, good shoulders/traps but also a good flare in the lower body as well. It shows that they care about overall development more.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.

    No triceps? No forearms?

This list could go on and on, why? Because I dont think its complete with just a handfull of bodyparts.
