    Help On Squats

Ok so I have used the machine to simulated squats but it kills my knees. I have bad knees to begin with so I try not to do to many things that hurt them. I really wanna try doing regular squats but don't really know how. So what should I be doing? I am still fairly new to it. Someone told me one day a while back all you do is stand at shoulders width then bend all the way down without bending your back. But how low do you go? Don't mean to sounds like a fool her but I would rather it be here than look like one in the gym. Any help would be great thanks.

there ya go. Squats are all in the hips. remember to go below parellel and as you come up, make sure your head is the first thing that comes up, the rest of your body will follow. Start with low weight and get the form down first. GL

Cool ty, but if I can't go that low b/c of my knees is it ok in the begining to go a little higher then once I get stronger go all the way down? If I go that low my knees will dislocate.(they actually will)

...focus on squeezing your quads the whole time also...you may try putting some flat weights or a piece of plywood under your feet (make sure they're stable and don't move at all under you) so you can get more focus on those quads.

keep your head up, inhale as you go down, keeping your back straight, contract your quads after you get as low as possible, and breathe out on the way up....

Squats help to strengthen the tendons in your knees by the way. you gotta go full on your form, that is of course if you can, you know your body better than anyone so listen to it.

Well I tried it when I first started working out and my legs where so weak I couldn't even bend down that low without weight. But after 3 months of of training and going to the gym they have gotten much stronger and I can now bend down that low without weight. I fear though if I slap on some 25's and try it though I wont be able to get back up so if I don't go so low in the begining I think I should be fine.

Believe me legs are the worst day for me, feeling all the tendens and every little thing in my knees popping and twisting. It hurts so bad some times, but the doctors say there is nothing wrong with them, I say nay nay. So I look at it this way, the more I work at it the stronger they get and the better my workouts will get. For now I go light and get em stronger.

you can have your body adjust to the wrong thing or have it become accustommed to the right way. Nobody feels completely commfortable under the squat rack the first time they get under there, but you gotta suck it up and learn. If you think you can't handle the 25's then don't use them, start slow and master the form before anything else, if you master the wrong form now then how will your body adjust to doing them correctly with more weight in the future?? Do it correct, then worry about strength man
