    Soreness....Why am i so sore?

My problem refers specifically to leg day.

I go 4 days on, 1 off. Legs fall on the 4th day. I literally cannot walk straight until the next leg day! I typically do 3 exercises for quads, and 1 or 2 for hammys, with 4 working sets for each ex. Legs are one of my fav. days, so i push myself until i literally feel like i am going to die. I have been training like that for a long time.

Soreness is supposedly caused by unconditioned muscles, and is relieved by rest. I sleep 6-7hrs per night, with naps frequently throughout the week. Why do i get so sore?

    Soreness

There are three possible reasons why you could get sooo sore on your leg workouts:

1.) You are not getting enough sleep!!!! You should try to get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep a day.

2.) You are not consuming enough quality protein in your body. You should be putting in at least 1 gram of protein per pound of body mass. (Try getting a good WHEY PROTEIN, this may help the soreness)

3.) The muscle tissue in your legs may consist of a great amout of "Slow Twitch Muscle Fibers". Which means that the muscles do not respond very well to the excessive training you are giving them.

that is your problem right there bro, 4 days in a row!! you have gotta throw rest days in there, bottom line. there is absolutely no reason to be in there 4 days in a row, your training will suffer. Coincidentally your legs aren't recovering, hmmm I wonder why, especially having legs, the most taxing day, come on the LAST day of a 4 day cycle. I don't even like to train chest the day before squatting b/c it depletes my energy level. You aren't letting your body recover, it doesn't matter that you are eating and resting at night, you are still taxing your CNS and teh rest of your body with no chance of recovery. go 1 on and 1 off for gods sake, if you have to 2 on 1 off. channel that energy in a positive direction buddy and don't get so overzealous about being in the gym. When in doubt, take a rest day. It doesn't make you less hardcore, it makes you smarter!

I can go 5 days straight with no problems. How long have you been doing this routine?

The only time I get really sore is if I do alot more volume than previously, which is rather the same as coming back from a layoff. It takes awhile for a stagnant body to adjust to doing hard work, so I start out slow taking about 6 weeks to get back to a full routine, adding sets each week.

Creatine and L-Glutamine helped me with the soreness.

I suppose an extra rest day in b/w will help, maybe like 2 on, 1 off, 2 on, 1 off then repeat.

That's the thing mudge, i have been doing this routine for a long time now, over a year. i have been making steady gains and putting on weight, while getting slimmer around the waist at the same time. Its just my legs get so freaking sore!

Would more stretching before/after perhaps help?

on my leg days I stretch a great deal and it helps alot. In the morning I wake up and eat, then I stretch and head down to the track and do some wind sprints, then stretch after that so my legs are all warmed up and ready to go. Then I get to the gym after another meal and have another 15-29 min stretching session and I am ready to go by that point for sure, my leg muscles are all warmed up, the blood is pumpin and they are loose. this routine really helps my legs deal with the punishment I put them through after all of that. later on I finish off with another small stretching session post WO and the soreness isn't too bad, just exhausted. my 2 cents bro

I go 4 days straight also. I haven't noticed any negative effects. Your legs may just take longer to recover than your other body parts. How much protein do u take? I've noticed that I recover alot faster than my workout partner because I take in alot more protein than he does. I HATE LEG DAY!!

I get plenty of protein, thats not even an afterthought. i eat 4 jumbo egg whites for breakfast, tuna/milk for lunch, cottage cheese/milk for snack, chix/steak/hamburg for dinner w/milk and 4 or 5 protein shakes all day.

As for the 4days in a row, i don't think its a problem. I weighed 205 in May, 210 in August, and 217 today. Like i said before, i am putting on weight and getting bigger, and at the same time my abs and obliques are looking better and better.

Maybe i gotta spend more time stretching...
As of now i ride the bike for 5 min, then stretch for 5 to 10. I also stretch in b/w sets, and after my leg w.o. i ride the bike for 10-15min, then stretch slightly after.

Who knows, maybe i gotta go less volume (but i dont even go that high in the first place). Oh well, thanks guys for your input.....

Almost half of the protein is in the yolk, your not getting much protein at all if thats all you have during breakfast.
