Triathlete and maintain mass
Hello, i am currently training to do a triathalon. But i am wondering if I can still gain muscle mass while running or cycling everday. Should i stay at my current 5x5 routine to gain mass, or will i still continue to gain mass with the tri-training and 5x5 routine.thanks

Having just finished my first season of tri, I can tell you it is very hard to maintain your muscle mass with all the endurance training you will be doing. I didn't notice a big loss in size, but strength most definitely.
What you have to ensure you are doing is increase your caloric intake to account for the major amounts of calories you are burning otherwise, and make sure your protein intake is a little higher to prevent major catabolism. Post workout, either lifting or tri training your nutrition is also important. I'm still learning about this myself, but this approach has helped me so far. Good luck! |

Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.
The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do. |
