    Cracked Sternum??

I went about 5 pounds heavier on my decline today on every set. I was on my last set 420 X 8, I dont bounce too mutch, but on my last rep It hurt right under my chest, right in the middle. It doesnt feel like any muscle there, so could it be bone that I hurt? It doesnt hurt too bad, only when I try to decline, or do dips does it hurt pretty bad. Should I go get this checked out? Or just leave chest alone for a week or so, and hope it goes away. I can incline, and it doesnt hurt.

Maynard : But the Gimp's sleeping.
Zed : Well, I guess you're gonna have to go wake him up now, won't you?

It didnt really wack me, I wasnt bouncing it any thats why I think it might be a torn muscle or something. :| Im gonna wait, and see if it still feels like this in the morning, and if it does I guess ill go get it checked... Xrays are expensive though...

I would wait a few days (5-7) and if the pain perists or worsens then see a doc. If you do anything that bothers it stop doing it.

    racoon02,

I had something similar happen a few years back, I'm not sure what caused it, but doing squats and military presses, really made it hurt.
I went to the doctor and he basically told me cartilage was torn in the sternum. He also said the older you get the less chance of this happening, because the sternum solidifies. Of course he could have been
    full of shit.

Does it hurt to breath, like you have broken ribs?

I might also mention there was nothing that could be done but to let it heal on it's own. But I understand wanting to know for sure what the problem is.

It mostly hurts when I push down, like to get up from a chair or do anything with a downward pushing motion. It also hurts pretty bad when I take a really deep breath, its like my diaphram is pushing on it or something. Im scheduled for an xray tomorrow, ill get back with how it goes.

You could have just bruised the bone there, that hurts like hell. Or damaged the cartilege which is no big deal. Trust me, if you had broken something like a rib, you wouldn't be able to do a lot more things than just dips and decline. But in the event you ever do break a rib, Doc's won't do anything for it anyway, best they'll do is give some pain med's.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...
