Peice weight? That may be a mental thing, 225 pounds is 225 pounds.
I was told that piece weight is harder to lift...like for 225 using 12 total plates
2 x 35
2 x 25
4 x 10
4 x 5
instead of just 4 ?is this harder than say
4 x 45 ?

but think about it Mudge . 12 plates spread futher and further out rather that 4 plates ? I was thinking that the further the weight goes out , the further and further the weight is distributed on the body . I mean a 45 pound plate feels lighter than the 45 pound bar .right ?

Try a 5 foot bar versus a 7 foot olympic bar and come back to me.
If the weight is perfectly balanced there is NO difference, however I have a much harder time on a short bar, I can bench "ok" with a 6 foot bar but not a 5, too short.
A pound is a pound, there is no balancing act to consider.

If they could fit 45 pounds into the palm of your hand, you'd probably think it was heavier - this is a brain trick, but a pound is a pound, period.Originally posted by seth042280

Just like it is easier to deadlift a bar of xx pounds versus trying to pickup something attached to a car bumper. While a pound is still a pound, we have perfect weight distribution and easy tools to work with in the gym.
i've always wanted to try a whole bunch of 10's.. lol
If you're lifting heavy weight, especially if you're snatching or jerking it, the bar might bend and the weights might bounce more if they're at the ends of a longer bar. And in the unlikely event that you're working out with a kettelbell, the lower weight will give you better leverage (Paul Anderson's theory).
...I could hear everyone saying "Look at that new guy always talking about kettelbells and Paul Anderson. Who let him in?"

Even the whimpy bars with a 500 pound limit aren't going to flex with 10s on them. I do have some bent up bars at my gym though.
well I guess thats a good thing . cause I dont have any 45's so I dont need them right now . however for convenience I guess it would be easier to just throw a couple of plates rather than getting my cardio workout putting 12 plates on .
thanks guys .
