    lower

    is it normal to have some lower back pain after squatting?

    for me it goes away prob in about an hour... i concentrate on keeping my back as straight as possible and keeping my head looking foward...

    is this something to worry about?

    Forward or slightly looking up, keep some arch in the spine. Make sure your legs are far enough apart so that at the bottom of the squat you can maintain form without leaning forward.

    Do you do direct lower back work? I would HIGHLY recommend upping the deadlift and/or SLDL work if you do not currently have something. A nice thick lower back and some nice abs are pretty important for squatting.

    Rack deads are for removing the legs from the equasion yes, I just do deads on the floor, those 45 pound plates are big so thats good enough for me.

    Abs are important IMO, I only do 3 sets a week, leg and back day seems to be fine with that currently. Previously though when only doing a set of abs per week, I was folding in half towards the end of my heavy deadlift days, and squats as well.

    When I was doing squats today I was a little bummed out. I guess my cardiovascular conditioning is up to par because I was having trouble catching my breathe in the last reps and couldn't complete as many as i'd like to. Anyone who says squats aren't a good cardiovascular workout probably doesn't do squats.

    Squats and deadlifts kill me. Doing lower reps though makes it alot easier to deal with.

    It's not normal to feel pain in ANY lift.
    ----------------------------------------------

    Cause:

    either improper form or too much weight. Only you can know which.

    For Squats:
    ++++++++

    Don't bring your knees past your toes.
    Don't arch your back as you stand up.
    Don't lift your heels off the floor.

    The Achille's heel of many bodybuilders is the abdominal/lower back area. Alot of foolish lifters avoid training these muscles focusing their attention almost exclusively on chest, shoulders and biceps.
