    Arm Pain

I started working out again last week after a year off. Please forgive me. Anyhow, I'm experiencing ain in my right arm. It goes from my wrist to my ebow. I don't think I pulled anything, it's a different kind of pain. Any ideas? I refuse to consider that I'm getting old.

you probably just went to heavy and it needs to recovery, it happen to me. your muscles aren't use to it, so in a week it should be fine if not sooner. I don't think you pulled anything or hyper extened. did you work out arms, or was it from another exercise?

I think it was from the last time I worked arms. It doesn't bother me during bench, just arms or side laterals. SUCKS Tomorrow is arms day.

Pain from lifting weights? Let me tell you something son, if you are going to cry about a little hurt arm don't expect me to kiss it for you. Either be a man about it and keep lifting through the pain, or never step foot in a hardcore gym. Just keep lifting your stacks of comic books. No offense, but whining like that really ticks me off.

you may have impinged something or possibly you are getting tendonitis. I would give it a little rest and see how it feels. It may be nothing but you want to be safe.

Jonwell, that is some of the worst advice I have ever heard. The "no pain, no gain" philosophy applies to many things in life. However, it does not work in the wieght room. I can't tell you how many freinds I have, myself included, that had a small pain and ended up just "pushing right through it" and injured something even worse because of either overcompensating or not leaving enough recovery time for the injury. Train smart.

Worst advice ever? What reality are you in? Each and everyone of my clients will tell you that they would have never gotten the gains they have without me. How many people have you trained? Don't try and be an expert and then give out sugar coated advice to help soothe some fool's feelings. Either you are hardcore or a soft, spineless jelly fish. There is no in between, son.

Sorry man, I am about as hardcore as they come when it comes to my diet and training. How many people have I trained???? I have a huge client list......and if you are really a trainer and that is the philosopy that you place upon your clients then you are extremly irresponsible and give trainers a bad name.

Take a look at the posts this punk has made in the short time he's been on this board. Jonwell, you're a tool! There's a really good group of people on this site with CRAZY amounts of experience. Don't be too pleased with yourself. How old are you exactly?

Pain is there for a reason, to tell you that something is wrong.

Lifting weights should not be painfull, I dont care how hard you work out. Working your ass off is not PAIN, pain is injury. I think it is stupid to liken working out to pain and its tiring to hear, working out does not feel like getting stabbed, think about it for a second.

so it was on arms ya i did the same thing wehen i started i thought i could do the same as when i was working out. It goes away your muscles should be use to the movement. but i would go light for awhile so your arms get use to it.

oh jonwell that is the worst advice, he could seriously fuck up his arm if it hurts as bad as i think it does. rest heals all muscles, if he keeps on irrating it he can get hurt. Also don't bash people on the board for trying to get some help

Well.....just got back from the gym and today was arms day. I kept it light and still got a good pump. That NO2 is awesome stuff. As long as I used the easy curl bars, I was ok. When I used dumbells or a straight bar the pain was unreal. Must have to do with the position of the wrist. No problem with triceps. I really blasted them.

    Thanks everyone for the advice.

It depends on what type of pain it is Jonwell, you can't just go around telling people to "work thru the pain", and if this is what you do to your clients you will soon find yourself in a lawsuit.

there are different types of pain, you need to be able to recognize "good pain" and "bad pain".

i had the same thing after i started working out in June after 8-9 years off..lol

i was so sore in the same area you described that i couldnt straighten out my arms past 90 degrees. i have big arms but thin wrists amd i think a little muscle pull there or tendonitis was there.

what worked for me is Ibuprophen (Advil/Motrin) 600-800mg every 8 hours and warm moist compresses. REST is most important. check with your doctor regarding anti-inflamatories if the above OTC medicine doesnt work. good luck it will end soon.

Musclefreak- seriously lay off arms work for at least a week or two, even if ez-bar doesn't affect it too much it will soon if it doesn't have time for the inflammation to go down.

NEVER PUT WARM COMPRESSES ON AN INFLAMMED AREA!! I cannot stress that enough. Ice for the first 3-4 days 4-5 times a day for 20-25 minutes. Wrap it in cloth or something do not place it directly on the skin. Ice slows the blood from coming into the inflamed area, heat increases circulation to the area which will increase the inflammation.

What we advise at the ER for things like this is 4 Ibuprofen w/2 extra strength Tylenol every 6 hours. May take a day or two, but it will stop the inflammation!!

ice works in the first 24 hours, then its heat for musclular injuries. warm moist heat to be exact. heat is not good for any inflamation due to bleeding, like a sprain, or strain or fractured bone as it will make the bleeding under the skin worse. heat for muscle injuries is fine. REST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING

I agree, but it does take longer than 24 hr for inflammation to go down, and if your talking tendonitis, your talking a longer period of time. Especially if the person is still using the arm and lifting weights, the inflammation is still present. You hit it right on the head with REST, REST, and more REST.

I really appreciate all the input. Unfortuntely I've been using the arm all weekend. I work a weekend shift for Nissan at their drivetrain plant in Decherd TN. I'm a machinist on their V6 engine block line. The blocks weigh 65 lbs each. My arm does feel better though. I'll lay off the arm stuff this week. Thanks again

VQ35 block is 65 pounds? Pretty light If I were rich I might play with an RB26DETT.

Well......I worked Chest today. Got several good sets at 225. Didn't do any flyes though. I could feel a twinge in my arm when I did the 1st rep of dumbell flyes. I think I'll concentrate on legs for the rest of the week. Thanks again for everyone's input.
