    Post general lifting thought

So I saw this guy at the gym this morning doing his bench presses (he appears to do them three times a week). The guy arches his back so much during his lift that you could literally fit a softball between his back and the bench. He's benching 225, but with horrible form. That got me thinking: Is it better to have really bad form than no form at all? I suppose lifting and looking foolish and risking injury is better than not lifting at all. I don't know...no question here. Just a random thought.

By the way, this same guy uses the old "rock the upper body" technique during his barbell curls.

Remember for all you beginners: Don't worry about lifting a lot of weight. Proper form is more important that piling on more plates.

I yelled at a guy today for taking a 10lb plate off the side of the smith machine I was using.

    He deserved it!

I can relate to that. There is a guy at the gym who benches at least twice a week. he goes for the same weight every time, but he only does half reps. It looks very weird seeing him go half way down then back up. I saw the guy from across the gym one day dump the weight off the barbell. The right side went first, then when the two plates fell off the left side went and the other two fell off. The guy didnt get hurt, but it was funny as hell.

    Just me ramblin'.......

I was reading an article Ed Coan put in February Muscle and Fitness and he says he says he uses perfect technique. First he arches his middle and lower back, squeezes his butt, tucks his shoulders under his chest, and plants his feet squarely. When he lowers the bar, he keeps his elbows slightly in so the pressure stays on his chest and triceps, not his shoulders. He does close to 600lbs in his press. Page 162. Hey that would make me squeeze my butt too hehe.
