No, and it seems noone at my gym does.
Bench:115
Dead: 130
nope, i don't
My neck has been at max red since the day I was born. No additional training needed. LOLOL
I love the sound of clanging iron in the morning. It sounds like victory.

Sure do, I use the 4 way neck machine, can't live without it.

unless you play in a sport the requires neck strength, e.g. football, wrestling, etc. I see no reason to train your neck from a bodybuilding standpoint.![]()

Skinny necks look stupid!
I don't train my neck, but it ain't skinny Mudge... However, I belong to a couple of gym and one has that head strap people attach weights to and train their necks with. Never seen anyone use it, but been thinking about it. Prince, you say it shouldn't be trained from a bodybuilding standpoint... but if one does train it, can't you make it visibly more muscular, or does it not show at all?![]()
i don't think i could ever be bothered
besides, i like my skinny neck![]()

why do you train it and do you only do this one exercise?Originally posted by Mudge

The neck is very important to train because as your body gets bigger so does your Ego - something has to support that swollen head .

This "one excersize" being one that covers all four sides of the neck yes. I have tried the head strap (own it) and find it very, very cumbersome and rather painfull trying to use. The neck is very powerfull and you can load some serious weight on it, so having my forehead skin nearly being ripped off in the process is somewhat uncomfortable.Originally posted by Larva

I liked the 4 way machine at my old gym better, much better padding and headrest design, I fold my towel over about 7 or 8 times before putting my head on it because I need the padding.
Some people get enough indirect work with forearms and neck but I dont, I have to work everything. My neck starts shrinking down to about 17.5" or so if I dont work it, and at my height it looks pathetic. It may sound funny but I think I look more attractive with a little bit of neck size, otherwise I just look skinny.
Goldberg had some mean traps/neck
When I used to workout at a particular 24 Hour, there was a pretty big and lean guy with a skinny neck, it just looked wrong and unbalanced to me.
Mudge : is that you in the pic, man?
where did your hair go?
Carl McCoy wannabe.

Thats Goldberg, a WCW wrestler who may or may not come back (no I dont follow wrestling that much). He was an ex football player I believe, thick thick neck.
Not the best shot I guess.
Oh... well he looks like he's done one set of shoulder shrugs too many. But I wouldn't tell him that.
Carl McCoy wannabe.

well, my neck is not really skinny, and if you build your traps that is all the matters IMO.![]()
I like the four-way neck machine - I don't often use it, and I should use it more often - but Mudge is right - you can adjust the resistance easily on it, and...while this might seem kinda weird, I always feel as if doing some resistance with it makes me feel as if I've had a massage...meaning, as soon as I get up from the last set of that machine, I feel a bit lightheaded and more relaxed, like it helps relieve some stress while doing some strengthening.

The ones I have used are all plates, but I have seen at my high school years ago a pneumatic unit, which unfortunately means no negative tension like with the weighted units.
damn
goldberg's traps are inhuman![]()

goldberg's blessed with great genetics to have traps like that.. lol.. he still sucks as a wrestler.. you see the physique on some of the other wrestlers, nathan jones, bautista? those guys are monsters.. juiced or not
I train my neck cause I'm a boxer. some good exercises are :
forward neck bridges
rear neck bridges
front neck flexion weight optional
rear neck flexion '' ''
You can find examples of these terms on boxing, or real wrestling(freestyle) sites . Go easy to start!!!!!!!!!!
Hell Week is only 6 months away.
I tend to think (like Mudge I believe) regarding Goldberg's traps and neck. I think they are awesome. Makes me think I should train my neck after all. But the strap problem Mudge describes does make sense and neither gyms I go to have 4-way neck machines - not even sure what they'd look like. But Vanity, you do have a point about building the neck to support to swollen head...Very interesting concept...

I don't train my neck except for when I stick my head in my ass, which happens quite often.![]()

My favorite one was I believe a Nautilus machine.
Here is one for $400 and the padding looks very thick.

yeah, we know!![]()
We used to have a 4-way neck machine at Golds, but then they took it away. I have a skinny neck, like 16 1/2. Any suggestions or am I just screwed?
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...

If you use a light weight the head strap is not too terrible, but that means high reps and nice and slow. I used my hands for support when using it, otherwise it would be true torture, I also wore a hat before putting it on otherwise that leather would leave some seriously painfull marks.
On the 'good' 4 way neck machine I used, I was up to 5 plates. Putting all that weight onto something pulling against my forehead skin would be unthinkable for me.
I tried the head strap when I was in high school and it was way to big for me. I have a smaller head, never tried again. The head strap is good for the sides and back of neck, but is it good for the front? I had a trainer that made me lay over a bench with my head hanging off the end, and holding a plate on my forehead and then doing neck flexions. I think that messed my neck up though.

I can't get into the plate stuff. The head strap sucks period, but it can be used in any direction, I just really dont like it. When I signed up at this gym the first thing I looked for was the neck machine, if that exists then any other standard equipment suits me for just about everything else, walk in racks etc.
