when is the last time you took a week or two off from training?
this is my situation:
I'm 20 years old. 6ft tall. 180lbs. I have been lifting for about 6 months now. up until about two weeks ago, lifting was my life. All i did was look forward to going to the gym and having insane workouts. But recently i've been lacking energy and motivation, i still go to the gym, but i find myself losing concentration and focus. Its hurting my intensity and hurting my lifts, i can't seem to get back into my old mindset.
Also, i think i should mention that i started taking a fat-burner (w/ ephedra and caffeine) and i was taking it for about 2 weeks and i was full of energy but I stopped taking it because it was making me jittery and i was spacing out a lot while on it. But once i went off the energy went away and the lack of concentration stayed. I've also been feeling depressed lately, probably because my workouts suck, but i just feel out of my element.
do you think these symptoms are a result of the fat-burner?

yeah buddy-
i went throught the same thing, and am actually just getting over being "in a funk".
time off may be the best thing for ya. guarenteed after a week of being off, you'll crave the gym and the feel of a great pump.

classic symptoms of overtraining.
also, you got to be careful with stimulants.

i haven't taken time off in a really long time. probably since i started. Its not that i don't have the motivation to go lift, its that i'm lacking concentration and intensity once i do make it to the gym.
i suppose i'm gonna try to take some time off. but every extra day that i stay away from the gym is like torture to me.
making your life fuller and less one-dimensional will do wonders for your feelings of depression.

that's exactly the point of time off bro.Originally posted by Yeah Buddy!

when you get there, you're not giving it your all (concentration and intensity). you gotta realize that time off is a good thing. its not gonna hurt you. whats even better is that you feel like you're shrinking (now you're thinking why is this a good thing).
give it a week, and like i said, you'll crave the gym so bad that you can't take it anymore. you'll start to see yourself "shrinking" (which i mentioned before), so you'll be so anxious to get pumped up and start building those muscles again, and once you get there, you'll be so fired up that nothing can stop you.

maybe it is time to add some variety into that routine of yours, that could be the reason behind the lack of motivation. Pick new and exciting things to do, set short term goals for yourself to accomplish, mix it up if you haven't already.
alot of people bore themselves to death because they keep doing the same routine : same sets, reps exercises etc, month after month.

If you're very lean, try a mini-bulk. If you're bulked up, do a mini cutting cycle.
Stimulants can definitely burn you out, and once you stop them (even if you've only been using them for several week), that may lead to an overall feeling of exhaustion.

Definitely take the time off, reconstruct your workout and change it around some - try new machines or movements. Someone told me that it's a good idea to change your workout every few weeks just to help stay motivated, surprise the body a little and test yourself with new methods.
