Oral Surgery = No Working Out (What Gives)
I went to see an oral surgeon today about having my wisdom teeth removed. I set the apointment for Nov 20, which is a week from this Thursday.
As they were going over everything with me, the doctor tells me not to do anything physically exhausting until one week after the surgery. This sounds like BS, but what the hell can I do for two weeks other than walk ont he treadmill and eat well. Anyone else ever heard this??? |

Blood pressure for one, a week off is no big deal. High BP is probably likely to open those wounds, I'd rather let them heal. Since many people bleed heavily from the mouth I would not think going to the gym and drinking water in between sets and such would be pretty, or hygenic.
Light treadmill duty is hardly exausting, but doing a full weight session is another thing. |

I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled back in July, the Doc said I could start working out 3 days after surgery. But It took me about 1week to leave my house. I had severe chipmunk cheeks, I was too embarassed to go outside. I probably could've worked out by the 4th day.

Better to listen to your Dr.
Beats having something go wrong which will cause you to miss even more time in the gym later on. |

I wouldn't get all 4 teeth done at the same time.
Minimize the pain and inconvenience - do 2 on same side of face one visit and the other 2 on the next visit. This way you will be able to eat out of the un-butchered side. rent little shop of horrors. |

The week after I understood, it was the week preceding the surgery that I don't understand. Oh well, its not like two weeks off will kill me. I'm not happy about it, but it must be done.
I don't know about little shop of horrors Vanity. I can just see myself laughing and starting to bleed like made. Steve Martin the biker dentist, gotta love it ![]() |

The idea behind doing all four at the same time is to not go through it twice

Prince, my sister had dry socket too. I'm one of the lucky ones that never got any wisdom teeth so i'll never have to deal with the pain.

I have to have all four of them done, so I figure this is a one time deal. I hate going to the dentist, so the oral surgeon is even worse for me.
I may be getting it done, but I'll be kicking and screaming the whole time ![]() |

The doctor told me that I couldn't lift for a week because of the increased blood flow when doing something physical and so it might bleed alot and could open the wound.
I had to take about 2 weeks off because I bled alot and was very swollen. |

I think what your doctor is telling you. Once you have your teeth removed do not engage in physical activity for one week after the date of your surgery. I had all four of mine taken out at the same time. Everything went smooth. Other than the fact that when I woke up I was bawling my eyes out. Some people (when they wake up after surgery) either cry or laugh. Listen to your doctor. 5-7 days after surgery, return to the gym or physical activity. Trust me, you won't feel like going to the gym the first couple days. |
