    Exclamation silly gym mishap

Funny story, if you want to hear it.

I was lifting my back couple days ago, on the cable row. last set, the whole stack of weights, trying for 8 reps. the rope on the machine isn't metal but rather a parachutte-type rope. (everything in this spanish gym is weird, and different from lots of machines in the states... )anyway, i pulled as hard as i could, stack was moving up, and the fucken rope snapped.

the seat part of the machine is raised off the floor 18inches or so. The snap happened hard, quick and unexpectedly, i was thrown off backwards, smacked my head on the floor and nearly did a complete backward summersolt. the stack slammed down, breaking the bottom 3 or 4 plates. if there was a machine behind me, i would have split head open.

thats the story. Its going to be hard for me to live this down, my trainer partner still laughs at me. wasnt really my fault tho. in fact, my partner has broken 2 machines himself, but none in such dramatic fashion.

    lucky you didn't get hurt!
Ok..so..after a check that you weree ok..a laugh would have been ok..

I flipped a leg machine once..
Had several hundred pounds on it...wasn't thinking and stripped off the left side..with maybe 400lbs or so on the other side...and it flipped over..making a big crash! Yep....all eyes were on me....

Stupid machine should have been bolted to the friggin floor!

Lmao, remind my to never work out with you and your training partner (3 broken machines between the two of you).
in all seriousness, its good that you didn't really get hurt.

    yea, we are accident prone.

my partner was doing a pulldown, with extra weights pinned onto the stack, and the pin actually broke inhalf. slammed down, breaking a bunch of stuff.

and he broke the preacher bench. sitting backward on it (no hi back chairs in the gym) doing db extensions for triceps. the padded part of the preacher ripped off, and he dipped way back and dropped the weight. almost landed on my feet....

    cheap machines.

thanks for your concern for my well-being.

My own home bench came with ropes as well, the stuff would flex for a good number of inches and that alone was frustrating.

yea, these flex too. you pull the rope a foot before the rope tightens and picks up the weight.

Ya I def agree on that..No machine is bolted to the ground at my gym..Common sense tells me that it would be easier to move the equipment around or to replace a pad on the floor BUT every machine there says "Warning to prevent injury, this machine must be secured to the ground prior to use"..But it would be to much of a hasle to walk to the storage room and get the ratchet and a socket and remove 4 nuts.haha..

I was doing crunches on the floor once with my toes under a universal machine and someone yelled for me to quit. It appears the machine was tilting over because the weigth stack was on the side instead of the center. That could have been bad.

OK here's one. I had a cheap adjustable bench with a single spring loaded pin. I was doin' inclines with 205 lbs, when half way through my third rep the freakin' pin snapped, I really can't tell you exactly what happened next, but somehow I must have pushed the bar out and away from my self. My only two injuries was a bump on my head from hitting the floor (bench went all the way down to decline position) and a bruise on my shin (the bar ended up at my feet somehow).
Well I bought a new bench, but I still have flash backs and every time I do inclines it's always there in the back of my mind.
