Is there a consensus on the optimum number of reps? When I started back to lifting recently, I started back with 3 sets of 50( I have a bench I built 20 years ago that has a seat in the center and a cross bar at the front to hook my feet under. There is no support under the back), but it takes so much time. I switched to 3X25 with 25 lbs on my chest and it seems to stall me out near the end of set 3. But am I on the right track? or is there a better approach? Thanks

I like to very it......sometimes I'll do high reps (the rectus abdominus is primarily fast twitch muscle fibers) and other times I'll do sets of ten with two forty five lb. plates across my chest. I feel it is important to do lots of weighed crunches for lower reps because it will help to strengthen your lower back/core so that you will be longer on major lifts like squats, deadlifts and overhead standing presses.
