Question Results - Random, or Consistent?

I'm just curious to see how other people feel their results come.

I'm an ectomorph, so gaining muscle mass is more difficult for me than most - I'm fighting both body structure AND genetics, which makes any progress at all noteworthy.

I'm curious to see how often everyone else here notices an increase in size, strength or endurance.

    Which comes first? Strength? Mass?

I just started a pretty decent 3-day split that I've based loosely off collected information off of these boards and GoPro's (many, many thanks to him) own splits.

I'm mostly interesting in building mass, and I've heard people say everything from "you'll see results in 6 weeks" to "wait 6 months before really noticing it". I've lifted off-and-on for a couple of years, but never for more than three or four months in a row "Seriously" before something came up that stopped it.

Long and short - how long before someone like me is likely to see a size increase? I know everyone's different, but it's important for me to have something to judge my performance by - if I hear 6 months, and in 6 months I see nothing, then I know something's wrong obviously. I need guidance

    And how about you ladies/gents?

Well, I hate to say it but it all depends on the person. If you jsut started a program then be patient. The first six weeks should bring about some strength gains (neurological) as your body is adapting to a new stimulus and figuring out movenent patteerns and motor unit recruitment patterns. However, most people will tell you that the strength gains are purely neurological with in the first 6-8 weeks and studies are now showing that this is not entirly true because there is still a great hormonal respone going on with responsse to the training as well as muscle breakdown which both will cause hypertrophy. Long and short-be patient for the first 6-8 weeeks, stength gains should come provided that you are training properly (proper volume and intensity) and body composition change MAY be evident (muscle gain/fat loss) provided you are getting proper recovery (rest and nutrition).

Sounds more or less on track, I have made gains in the past, and haven't lost any (thankfully) I was just trying to see if I could get a general guideline as to how long it should take before I start to "see" some changes, rather than simply feel them.

    Any other opinions?

    Thanks in advance

I don't know...........Howe long have you been training for? Have you seenany changes yet? Your question is really pretty much up to your own genetics and phyisical make up.

Well, I've been training a couple of years, but like I may have mentioned, rarely more than three or four months tops in a row before something comes up that stops the routine - I'm well aware of this as an impediment to gains, and hopefully I won't "stop" anymore.

I just picked up working out after a 5 month break about six weeks ago, and I haven't seen too many improvements yet "visually" - I don't expect my arms/chest/etc. to grow in that time anyway, but I'm wondering if there's simply a general guideline, that's all.

Given that I'm an ectomorph, and started a hybrid of GoPro's 3-day split a few weeks ago, how long before I visibly start to see a change? Like I've mentioned, I just need a way to guage my performance and results - that way I can tell if I'm making progress, or if I'm stagnating. I need to know what someone of my body type, following a good split, and eating well should expect - 3 months before I add mass? Six?

General question, I know you can't give me a specific answer - of course everyone's different. But it's important that I have something to measure myself against.

No one else seems to have an opinion anyway

Thanks for your time, it's appreciated.
