i used to see guys who were built the way i wanted to be and it bothered me. so i would just look at myself in the mirror everyday and didn't like what i would see. that was enough for me to get moving, i still look everyday and still see many reasons to keep going.

Motivation...hmmm well for me, I look at myself, I am 22 and lost in life. I have no idea where I am going in life , but I work in a call center with people of all different ages and size. The majority of them are content with sitting in a chair and eating donuts, chips, and getting up to go have a ciggerette, then *****ing about there life, or talking about web porn. I cant see myself living a life like that, there is so much to do, so much to expereince. This is what got me in the gym, because i didnt want to end up that way. I mean thats them, and im not trying to down them, but i couldnt be happy with that lifestyle. Once i went to the gym for about two weeks, and started a good diet, i couldnt see any dramatic changes, but i felt alot better, physically and mentally. I have been going ever since. I use the gym for motivation with life. I am a real shy person, quite. When your in the gym, its a nice feeling, everyone is there to do the same thing "Improve" themselves. I have gained alot of respect for myself, and have become more open and outspoken because of the gym. Confidence comes with time I have learned.
You said about the magazines and things of that nature. Put those to use, dont just look at the pictures, try to read the articles and before you know it, you will be in the gym. You mentioned girls, trust me, get in the gym and you will have girls. Its amazing how many stares you get when your at the mall, or out. Its a great feeling and once you have experienced, you will be in the gym everyday One downfall, some girls are intimidated by size and strength.
I say you owe it to yourself. Even if it feels like a hassle, Go to the gym! Give your self and your body a month of it and good dieting, and if you dont like it then you know its not for you, but i bet you will love it. Sorry for rambling I hope that you will find your own motivation like i did. Man its a short life, so take advantage of it. Get to the gym..

I know what you mean, I just took a month off from the gym cause of buisness reasons and am haveing trouble getting back at it.
Not because I don't want to but because I'm always sore for the first couple of weeks and have a bad habit of trying to do the same weight I left off with before the lay off. There's nothing I find more fusterating then haveing to drop weight that I was able to do before.

I'm back now though, got throught the first 2 weeks so its smooth sailing now.

You have to know that you're doing it for yourself. Know the benefits, and guage how important they are to you. Trying to change for someone else is just setting yourself up for failure.

Everybody has motivational problems from time to time so try not to get so down on yourself bro!

I'v looked at magazines, past workouts that I've done, think of all my accmoplishments, watching the movie "Pumping Iron," sometimes I log onto 1 of the many boards that I'm on and see some posts that inspire me, since I mainly workout at home, when I go to a public gym just noticing the looks I'm getting, sometimes just getting that first set done does the trick because the endorphines kick in. etc.

Lately though, I've been doing something that really does the trick! I'm a huge Rocky fan and I've seen Rocky 1 through 5 dozens of times. So what I've done is download some key Rocky songs from napster (Eve of the Tagir, Burning Heart from survivor.) For some reason, listening to those particular songs really gets me focused!!! Since I've seen the Rocky series so many times, when I listen to those song, certain scenes from Rocky flash in my head and that really charges me up.

So different things work for different people and, even though Rocky is a boxing movie, it gets me going big time!

Dude, I think you belong on that "Boot Camp" show. It's full of nothing but negative reinforcement. I think what Booty Daddy needs is to be inspired, not insulted.

When I went through BUDS all I got was positive reinforcement. They called me the lowest scum on the earth(Some people would take that as negative), but I was not dead so therefore I had something to strive to be better then and that was the lowest scum on earth)

    Booty Daddy,
Look in the mirror and ask yourself if this is what you want to be for the rest of your life? Notice I did not say look like, but be. Lifting will not only transform your body but also will change you inside also. I started lifting to lose weight, help a bad back, mostly look good. Those are not bad reasons to lift but the thing that motivates me to keep doing it is the person I have become from lifting, inside and out.
Nobody will respect you until you respect yourself and for me I have found no better way. So look in the mirror!
Mule, If I did 285 twice I'd be proud. 275 is max at the moment for myself but I'll get there.
Scotty, I know what you mean, I recently came off a 2 week layoff and went right back and tried to lift like normal. It took 5 days for me to walk normal.

Hey MtnBikerChick - everyone has the same feelings now and again. Just get back in the gym and start again. I had to take a week off a little earlier than I was planning cause allergies got me. But now I'm back on track. It wasn't easy though. After a week without lifting, I could have easily said.. eh.. what's one more day.

Don't put yourself down, just get back in there. A good way to start again is to start slow with a few exercises on the first day back or maybe try an exercise you haven't tried before. Remember... eye of the tiger... EYE OF THE TIGER!

Lift well! But don't forget to put it down afterwards.
