    muscle definition

    how do you get more definition for your muslces? i am particularly interested in getting definition for the shoulders and arms

    lower your bodyfat thru proper diet, nutrition and training.

    You cannot just get one area more defined, once you start losing bf your muscles will start to get defined accordingly, for males typically the legs get lean first, and the abs chest area is usually last.

    getting more definition in your muscles isn't just losing fat though, it's also about gaining muscle... BF is measured as a percent of your body weight... so significantly increasing your muscle mass will significantly alter your ration of muscle to fat... therefore the fat that previously hid your definition, now isn't present in enough quantity to hide the definition in your newly built muscle, making you look more defined... eventhough you didn't LOSE any bodyfat...

    so, you're saying that if your bf stayed the same and you gained muscle you would look more defined?

    Yeah, for me it's not this way thoug. My legs aren't as defined as my upper body (though either isn't very defined )

    if you gained muscle mass, you're bf is prolly going up, even if you have a really clean bulk

    well, no one replied, but I do not agree that if you gain muscle mass you will gain definition.

    actually, I'm saying if your muscle mass increases, while the amount of fat, not percentage of fat, stays the same, you are in fact leaner and will have more muscle definition... like the above post says, gaining muscle mass without gaining a bit more fat is difficult, but still very possible

    I guess what I'm saying is more simple than I'm making it out to be...

    DEFINITION = high ratio muscle to fat

    by this equation you can see that you can increase your definition not only by losing fat, but also increasing the amount of muscle in your body.

    Bottom line is you don't have to lose fat to look more defined... BUT... the more fat you have the harder it will be to adjust the ratio of muscle to fat simply by gaining muscle...

    Basically in a round a bout way I'm just saying the holy grail of bodyfat% can be lowered without losing even a pound of fat...
