    Form question-Straight Bar Curls

    Should your elbows move forward at the top of the movement? I was doing my set today, and I was keeping my elbow in the same spot... however, towards the end of my first set i decided to allow my elbows to move forward so when fully contracted, my forearms would be perpendicular to the ground... at that point, i felt a nice contraction in my bicept, but I'm not sure if my elbows should move from being straight down at my side.

    Can someone clue me in please?

    Mayo Im not as experinced as you but here is my two cents. I think your elbows are supposed to swing up once your tired giving you some forced or cheated reps. I know for myself I will swing my elbows just to get that extra 2 or 3 reps. The burn feels great when I do that. You probablly already no this but I hope this helps. Plus I have heard that doing this is ok.

    well, i do the same thing as you, but I'm just not sure if I should be moving my elbows forward, i did find some info where they talk about starting the movement with your shoulders slightly behind your hips, and then at the top of the movement your shoulders are slightly in front of your hips... it doesn't really mention anything about elbows though... I would kind of like to hear what Mudge, Prince, P-Funk think about it...

    Yes, becuase the long head of the biceps crosses the shoulder it helps to perform sagital plane flexion so letting your forearms move forward as you are doing is actually moving the shoulder into flexion and allowing the long head to contract, not only at the elbow but at the shoulder as well.
