    side raise excercise

    When doing side raises to hit the shoulders would it have any MORE effect on the set if I were to hold the DB's at the top for like for say 10 sec's. It just takes a little more for me to really get a good shoulder workout and am looking to maximize this area.

    You could use TUT (time under tension), by doing slow reps. I did this with lighter weights when my shoulders were bothering me a good while back and it actually helped out in the size dept, nice once in awhile.

    To me a static hold for 10 seconds is a bit ridiculous though, you may as well do Atlas training and just push against walls.

    I like a static contraction on the last rep....I hold for as long as I can.

    Sometimes I'll do a 4sec hold at the top of rep to get that time under tension (TUT) effect that Mudge is talking about.

    I like holding the contraction the last few sets for a few seconds after warming up thy shoulders
    These are my favorite faces : - - -

    Personal Bests:

    Bench - 235

    Thanks guys..

    Maybe I can add in side raises and front raises with light weights 3 sets 10 reps at the end of a shoulder workout..Does that seem reasonable?

    If you are worried about your side delts lagging, why not just work them first? I did that for awhile.

    TUT is a set that lasts approximately 45-60 seconds, so you are going by time, not by reps. Of course you could call it TUT and do it for however long you want.

    I dont think it will help to hold a static contraction. This will only build up lactid acid.

    I suggest you take one hand and hold on to a bar or something. Lean away to to side. Now perform a dumbell lateral raise with the other hand.
