trying to balance out thighs and calves

I have grotesquely underdeveloped calves and moderately underdeveloped thighs. Am I a fool for thinking that I can get good development in the thighs from doing just freeweight barbell squats until failure and then bombarding my calves with calf raises and sitting calf raises? Will my legs eventually balance out using this approach?

    Tonights workout:

    Squats 5x 10

    Calf raises 4x 17
    Sitting Calf raises 4x15

Also do you think my calves can possibly benefit from doing calf raises in an explosive manner to hit the fast twitch fibers? Is it a good idea to throw much heavier weighted calf raises for like 3x5 prior to performing my ordinary calf workout? Also, I read somewhere that in order to achieve a more symmetrical it would be a good idea to perform forearm workouts on the day you do calves. Any thoughts on this?

Throw in more movements for your thighs. Try some movements such as leg extensions, hacksquat, deadlifts. Also, While working calves incorperate drop sets of some sort. I've gotten the best results from that.

5 - 25 pound plates every 15 reps I have some strip a 25. I do this two times, with about a 3-4 minute break inbetween sets. Then Donkey calf raises or standing raises afterwards.

And No, Don't use explosion, I see results from holding the contraction then going down and keeping constant tension on my calves.

And the thing about the forarms. If you want to through forarms into leg day go head. But It's not nessesary that you work your forarms during legday.

I often just do some forarm workouts after i work back because my forarms are already fried, so then I'll just add in some wrist curls, gorrilla hangs, and reverse wrist curls.

And remember this. Look at your upper leg as the trunk of a tree and calves, as the branches. If you don't have a big trunk [ upper legs ] you won't have big branches [ calves ]. So don't neglect a certain part of your lower body, work everything, work everything smart, and correctly - for the best results. Gooodluck man.
