i've heard ppl say they do some weight lifting until they reach positive failure...well what is that?? and i take it if there is a positive failure then there has to be a negative correct??

positive failure = when you can no longer push the wieght up.

negative failure = when you can no longer prevent the weight from coming down on you.

failure is failure in essence. When doing a movement there is an eccentric (negative) part of the motion and a concentric (positive) part of the movement. So if you are doing negatives to failure where are you forego the positive part of the movement somehow, then I guess you could call that negative failure, and visa versa. make sense? I really don't' hear alot of people talk about positive an negative failure as much as just failure. If you can't do anymore negatives than you are probably done with taht set period, which would be total failure. Maybe not though
