need help getting back to the gym!!!

BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS
High Quality Supplements For Bodybuilders and Athletes. www.ironmaglabs.com
Hey everyone. I am in the need for some serious help / advice. I started training about 2 1/2 years ago. I was lifting (what I would say hardcore)5-6 times a week at an hour each session. I trained like that for about 1 1/2 years. I made some trmendous gains for my size and I was very happy with what I had gotten. Then, I got sick for about 3 weeks and around that same time I was put on Zoloft (antidepressant)By the time I got over my sickness and got the Zoloft in my system and going, I just never found myself interested in getting back in the gym like I once found myself. I always catch myself make stupid excuses about why I shouldn't go on a specific day, which is a day I would never even thought about missing a year ago. A little note about the Zoloft is, it has made a difference in my life away from lifting and I am feeling good about it. It almost makes me wonder if it is making me not care as much about lifting as I once did. I really think if I head back to the gym and start hitting it like I used to, that I would get back in the mood. I am just asking you all for some advice on what I should do to get back at it. I know that it is ultimately my choice, but just needing some input from all my lifting friends here on the forums. Thanks in advance for your help.

you're right bro, ultimately its your decision.

right now, i'm sick as shit, and every day i can't wait to get back in there.

i don't know if its the zooloft doing that to you.......but here's a little friendly advice. just go to the gym, even once. work your muscles until they are so pumped with blood you feel like a dinosaur. when you get home, whack a shake, take a shower, then eat a huge meal, then sit down and relax. if you don't like that feeling you have when you're muscles are pumped and also when you're relaxing at that point after everything, i dont knwo what to tell you.

go pump some iron bro......you'll get back into it.

You're a funny guy, Sully, I like you. Dat's why I'm going to kill you lahst.

You need to inform your doctor of this....The med is doing this to you. You may need to decrease your dosage....DO NOT DO THIS ON YOUR OWN!!!! You can cause a HUGE Chemical Imbalance and throw you off BIG TIME!!!!!! Be cautious of the supps you take also.

Just go to the gym. MAKE YOURSELF GO!!!!! After you go and see everyone else there working out, you'll think back and your goals will POP in your mind........May not motivate you the first time back however, the second and third will. Try looking at old photos or looking at yourself in the mirror....when you start making up excuses, think back of those thoughts while you were looking through your photos or what your opinion of yourself was while looking in the mirror..........

Keep faith....it'll happen.

Yes, definitely talk to your doc about how the meds are making you feel -- and also tell him about your diet and any supplements you may be taking.

As for getting back to the gym -- it's one of those things that has to be a part of your life, a habit. They say it takes maybe eight weeks (maybe less) to drop a bad habit or pick up a good one. Make yourself do it for about eight weeks, and hopefully by then it'll be a part of your lifestyle again -- and it won't be so hard to get to the gym everyday.

Just get yourself back intot he gym. You fill so much better. However , before you do this you must mentally commit yourself to it. I was in a similar situation as you were. Trained for several years, looked great, then school, carreer, relationships all got in the way. Now I am at a point when I said to myself that nothing is holding me back or keeping me from the gym and realized that everything before was simply an excuse (My [INSERT school, carreer, girl] are more importatnt that the gym Blah, Blah, blah.).

Not to get metaphysical on you, but you either DO or DON'T DO. There is no I can't, just I don't want you. Once I realized this, I was back in the gym and feeling great about it.

I'm sure you will the same way. Good luck to you pal!

One of the symptoms of depression is anhedonia. Altough antidepresents are great they are usually slow to work and generaly do not completely remove all symptoms. It sounds like zoloft has worked great for you, don't want to get to personal, but I hope your also seeing a therapist for the things the medication doesn't take away. Let me get down off my box...

Yes, what they said... Just go to the gym!

My workout partner is going through almost the exact same shit that you are. Except he was prescribed a drug called carbotrol about a month ago and guess what. I've been working out solo ever since.

Good for you man. Stay motivated and always look at it as being somthing you want to do and enjoy, rather than a task.
