    Those with back pain..

    do you work your back?

I have lower back pain that comes and goes apparently for no reason sometimes. I did dead lifts yesterday and it was hurting afterward. I felt I kept my lower back straight and good form throughout but it still hurt.

I guess I need to go to a chiropractor.

    What do you guys do?

You guess you kept your lower back straight or you know you kept your lower back straight? There should be now guessing, you will feel it right away if you nailed the form or if it went out the window, at least I can. What you need is a training partner or a spotter to be watching you and telling you when your form looks bad so that you can terminate the set.

I have a pinched nerve that seems to act up if I DONT religiously train my lower back. I normally do SLDL but I have to admit my erectors are not as nice as when I perform standard deadlifts.

I reinacted my deadlift and found that I had bad form when initially lifting the weight off the floor. It seems really heavy until I get it up about a foot or so. Doing the exercise, my back is straight.

Mudge, can a pinched nerve heal? How do you know that is what it is?

Until you get your legs and lower back in shape to be able to support you properly you may want to switch to rack deadlifts. They are the same except the bar is placed on a rack about a foot off of the ground so that you aren't starting the movement from the floor.

Either that or lighten up on your weight until you have proper form down pat.

I have a bad lower back. My chiro recommended I do lat pulldowns, good mornings, hyperextensions etc to help. When I work my back, my form is good, but it still tightens up alot almost as if it wants to go into a spasm. I also need to work my abs. Until I build up my back I won't be able to get the most out of the deadlifts b/c my back goes out before I really feel it in my legs.

It started not long after I was 12, when a teacher kicked me in the back for "hitting a volleyball wrong." When it occurs I am basically immobilized, sometimes I just drop for a few minutes at a time before I can move. I haven't had an episode in I think over a year, sometimes it is milder though.

Mudge, that is f-ed up. You should pay that "teacher" a visit today. I swear I would go to jail if anybody hit my kid..

Your situation sounds like mine. When I was living at home, I used to help my dad with firewood, and being the person that I am, picked the whole chunk up. Didn't let him split it first. I am guessing they were in the 75-100lb range. Bent over and used no legs. I blame my back on that. When I was in high school I was playing bball and came down after a rebound and landed wrong. I could barely walk. I failed my physical because I could do nothing. I was running the mile in less than 5 before. That took several days to get over. Now, sometimes I can bend over to pick a piece of trash up and almost buckle and then I am bad for the rest of the day. Hasn't happened in a while until the workout a few days ago.

I have no access to a rack so I may just make something to place the weight up. Once I get it lifted it feels really good. My back is nice and sore right now; The muscle I mean.

    Thanks guys.
