Set Schedule Vs Spontaneous

I try to work out with a 3 day set schedule a week since I'm just beginning.

Two of my friends just lift whenever they are bored and just do whatever muscle they want. For example they might do biceps 4 times in 2 days.

I always tell them that they should set their workout, but can someone just confirm this for me…

Thanks
Jesse

I'm defintely a believer in a set schedule. Without it, you're more likely to overtrain body parts you like working...while undertraining the ones you dont like as much. I think I'd quickly lose track of what I worked and when.

Off course they need to set their workouts, but then again it all depends how serious they are in gaining real muscle mass. If they just want to do this for fun out of being bored, in that case they might not even want to reconsider changing it. However if they trully want to be serious about this, then they should not do any group of muscles more than once per week (except for maybe abs and calves)
Just my .02 cents.

Every other day sounds good. I used to do abs almost every training for a little bit but then again it's just me. You need to watch your diet and aim to lower your body fat as much as possible. By doing this your abs will become much more visible. ( even without too much training)

They think I'm as ass because I say to them "if you guys are just gonna sit around and BS, do in the stretching room. Not where the work is being done". lol

Set Schedule Vs Spontaneous? Both.. Be Spontaneous, every few weeks but using a set schedule. ( i.e. GoPro's Schedule, Periodization... etc. )

It is suggested that you do not use instinctive training until you have been doing things for a few years and know what you are doing.

Like not totally spontainious, but like switching it up every so often, like Periodization.

i still use instinctive training. everytime i train, i use different order, exercizes, sets, reps, pace etc.

keep the body guessin and there's no way it'll adapt and slow growth....

I have set days for bodyparts, but I dont write down my workouts ahead of time any longer. Rep ranges are semi spontaneous, as are sets.
