How about them Fat PT's at the gym?

I just want to know who hear wants to get trained by some 50 year old fat woman or man? Speak up if you think these people have some intimate knowledge of training that we have overlooked for thousands of years. Don't mean to offend anyone in here but if you are fat and a PT you need to walk the walk baby! Lose that twinkie build up in the waist area and walk the walk!!! Ya'll hear me?????

I have always gotten a chukle out of any out of shape personal trainer. I could not possibly take one of them seriously. It is a profession you have to live in order to make an impression.

Kinda like taking financial advice from someone who just filed Bankruptcy, its ridiculous.

Would you hand your car over for a tune up to the guy with a Ferrari or to the guy with 50+ years of experience but riding a bike?

    enough with the analogies

the reason there are fat physical trainers is because there is a demand for them. If people refused to pay to be trained by a fat fuck, they would be out of business.

an overweight, out of shape PT is a disgrace to the profession. if a PT cannot keep their own physique in shape how are they going to tell somone else how to, even if they posess the knowledge how could someone take them serious?

I cannot even imagine how they could stay "in business" long, when I was a PT people came to me wanting my services because of how I looked.

or, on a side note, the people at the front desk. There is a girl at my front desk..who is a good 40 or so pounds over weight. Now, as they say, first impressions...if you walk into a gym and see a chunky girl as the first thing / person you see...what is your first impression going to be...

Just to speak in the defense of some trainers, take a good look at what you think is fat and out of shape before you judge. Some of the best trainers in the world don't look like they're in great shape but could smoke most of us at many physical efforts. Paul Chek is a good example - the guy doesn't look like he's in good shape and looks like he has a gut but he can stand on a Swiss Ball and do squats with 225 for reps.

Size also does not equate to knowledge. I agree that as trainers they should try to look their best, but not everyone trains to be a bodybuilder. That skinny trainer you're making fun of might be an Ironman Triathlete or pro soccer player. The "fat" guy you're looking at might be an elite class powerlifter at the age of 50. I also know lots of women who are "fat" - one is a member of my gym training to be a firefighter who can deadlift double her bodyweight. And she can run a 6 minute mile.

I'm just saying check into it before you judge a book by its cover

I hear where you are coming from Ponyboy, but I have been around long enough at my gym to figure out who those people are.

I, too cannot figure out why people pay overweight, out-of-shape people to train them. They truly could know what they are talking about, but how can they successfully motivate anyone whne they can't even motivate themselves. Like Prince, its been my experience people want to train with most because they see how you improved your own body- proof you know wtf you are doing and what it takes to get there. But obviously, the unfit trainers are getting business somehow, or we wouldnt have all seen them.

Unfortunately, fat or in shape there are some pretty pathetic trainers out there, as anyone who can study can pass an ACE exam.

But it doesn't matter if you can pick them out because you are not the one paying for their service. The client must be able to pick them out.

If they could be models, they probably would be...

Just as everyone can't have movie star looks, everyone can't make the cover of Muscle Media. That's life.
The biggest impression my trainer made on me was not his average build, but the way he went about training. It's about diet, diet, diet, pushing yourself, pain, etc etc. While I may not have taken him all that seriously had he been out of shape, he is a fit guy. His chest wasn't popping out of his shirt, but I knew from the way his clothes fit that he was solid.
While training with this guy, he had that drill sargent mentality that pissed me off. His motto was, if that's what it takes...

But seriously, the main reason I paid my trainer was because a friend of mine at the gym recommended him, and basically said this cat has his shit together. Once I talked to him, he won me over with his no-nonsense approach.

OK lets have pity for the overweight and out of shape! Unless you have screwed up genetics it's your fault for being fat and out of shape. My point is, the only place to work out where I live is 24 hour fitness ( It sucks!). I have been to 4 different ones in Denver and the trainers are all out of shape and look like they have never lifted a weight in there lives. I've been a trainer for 5 years, and getting ready to compete for 2 years now. They refuse to hire me because as one of them said, "You will intimidate people and we want everyone, including the other trainers to not be intimidated." WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!!!!!!!! Anyway, if you don't look the part, how will people know if your system works???? You go get trained by a fat slob, I'll train myself!

I understand , however, I stated I can pick "them' out to support the fact I still have seen fat trainers, who are not the kind of "fat" he described.

It doesnt matter if I am paying them or not, they still exist and most likely outnumber the kind of "fat" PB is speaking of.

My friend told me something similar. She said she liked me better when I was skinnier. I was like really? And she told me my body made my head look small
