Things To Do With a Barbell

BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS
High Quality Supplements For Bodybuilders and Athletes. www.ironmaglabs.com
Hi Guys,
I just invested in a straight barbell and 2x10Kg plates in addition
to the dumbells I already have here.
I know what to do with the dumbells, but aside from bicep curls,
I'm looking for some hints with barbell excersises.

Are there any graphic instructions on the net?
I find names of heaps of excersises, but it's hard to follow a
text description of the tecniques....

Also.. I was thinking of approaching someone at the gym to
teach me some stuff... would it be considered rude to ask a
stranger for advice??
Cheers, Art.

Well, just like you said, its hard to explain in text. If I were you I would ask someone at the gym. Any respecting person should not take it as rud when you ask this. If they are rude however you dont want advice from them anyway. You could also ask a trainer for a few pointers and im sure they would be happy to help.

Thanx Guys
I guess a bench is going to come in handy at some stage.
... I want to get some basic stuff together for when the gym
is closed (or on restricted hours like it is today ).

Certainly for the chest the bench will come in handy, pushups just wont cut it.

Standing overhead barbell press
Bnet over barbell rows
deadlifts
straight leg deadlifts
squats
barbell hack squats
barbell lunges
barbell step ups
skull crushers
Pretty much anything you do with the dumbells can be dome with the barbell.

Asking someone at the gym is a pretty risky idea if you ask me. I'd say about 90% of the people in my gym are pretty stupid and have horrible form on the exercises that i see them do (yes, even the hyoooge guys and the personal trainers).

The barbell hack is an awesome, and sadly forgotten lift. If you don't have a cage/rack, but still wish to do heavy lifting for your quads, they're absolutely splendid.

The problem with barbell lunges, if you don't have a cage/rack, is that you may eventually be able to lunge more weight than you can clean into a starting position.

For that, stand over the bar---horizontally placed----and put one foot over the bar with the other behind; lunge with the forward leg.

Power and hanging cleans are also excellent.

You can ask at the gym, since you are an Aussie and you guys are a bit more accomodating than us Yanks.

Perhaps I will compliment someone, and then they will help me.
like find someone with good physique and say
"Hey you look like you know what you're doing, could you help me
with this?"
The only problem I see is if they don't like their workout interrupted.
Maybe if I catch then on the way in or out....

Thanx Guys,
At least now I know some excersises to ask about.
Cheers,
Art.
