I wish i was talking about Chocolate dip or caramel or something of that nature... but since this is the training forum... I'll get back to my intended question...

When doing dips... do you find having your hands closer together puts more strain on your chest and having them wider places more strain directly on the triceps?

I've only recently started to include dips in my chest/tricept day... and the pressing really nails my triceps so I want my dips to be focused more on chest... So far it seems that narrower grip works more chest... but I'm not really sure... wanted to hear some other thoughts...

just for the hell of it, here's the chest workout i do... i vary the sequence and occasionally sets only go to 6 reps depending on if I'm pushing up a new heavier weight or if the exercise is towards the end of my routine... today I also did 3 sets of knee ups and 10 close fisted pull ups while recovering...

3x10 Dips (non weighted)
3x8 pec dec
3x8 decline bench
3x8 overhead 2 handed rope using tricep extensions
3x8 incline bench
2x8 one arm pull downs (each side)

Are you kidding me????

why do you do dips and decline bench?

for me, hand placement isn't as important as the angle at which i dip when trying to hit chest.

I've noticed the opposite. I keep my hands close and body upright when trying to hit tri's. Hands apart and body facing down for chest. I "think" this makes more sense, since close grip presses work tris...

Yeah, Exactly what Mudge said. But when hitting the triceps.. At the top of the movement, squeeze the hell out of the triceps. That will really getcha pumped man.

I can't do dips because i get a sharp pain in my shoulder area at the bottom of the movement.Maybe I am just doing it wrong.

I haven't ever done any shoulder training... wow... I never really even thought about it... I don't do any traps either... hmm, I'm going to have to think about this...

Heh, yeah I would give it some thought . Sure the shoulders come into play with other movements but I definitely think you should add in some shoulder/trap exercises. Some work the shoulders on chest/tri day but I think that's too much. I have your same split except I have shoulders on their own day.
