7 – Fill your belly with air and hold it.

For maximum attempts and sets under three reps, you must try to hold your air. Everyone must learn to breathe from their bellies and not their chests. If you stand in front of the mirror and take a deep breath, your shoulders shouldn't rise. If they do you're breathing the air into your chest, not your belly. Greater stability can be achieved in all the lifts when you learn how to pull air into the belly. Try to expand and fill the belly with as much air as possible and hold it. If you breathe out during a maximum attempt, the body structure will change slightly, thus changing the groove in which the barbell is traveling.

    There it is.

Maybe Mudge meant to hold the breath untill you lift it, and then exhale it hard. It can be dificult to exhale all the way while you're lifting heavy.

It sounds like it wont kill you for those 3 quick reps but if your going to do more you have to breath some or your gonna pop something. I hate that whole breathing thing because it ussually comes out as a huge grunt. For a massive guy its ok to do but for someone of my size it justs doesn't make sense.

Inhale, when you bring the weight down and exhale when you push the weight up.

I Inhale on the way down, hold my breath through the sticking point and then exhale the rest of the way up.
Holding your preath increases internal pressure making it easier to stabalize the weight as well as providing more of a base to push against.
No need to do this on the easy reps of a 10 rep set.
Just do it when you need it.
