Question New routine...

Hi all,

I have just taken up golf, waits for laughing to subside, does anyone either know a good routine or a site that would contain a routine.

Cheers,

Rich

a weightlifting routine to better your golf game, or a golf routine to use to better your swing/game?

Cant help you out there. If you do find anything please post something here about it.

One word of advice though. DOnt listen to Bludevil. He dont know nothing about golf. He shoots in the low 80's...on nine. Hell we dont even let him play with us at the office anymore because he slows us down.

Hi,

thx for the reply.

I have been lifting for a while and have a blocky appearance. I find it quite hard to get comfortable for the swing ,adnd was thinking of swithing to cardio for a few weeks to try to slim down a bit. I will obviously need to do some kind of stretching exercises too - any websites?

RM

ps

how far do you guys hit 9-driver etc?

Don't ask that question because it doesn't matter how far someone else hits their clubs. The difference in equipment alone makes it an invalid question. What matters is that YOU hit YOUR clubs the same distance EVERY time and you know what that distance is. If you're 100 out you KNOW you can stick a wedge right next to the pin. The same with 125, 150, 175, etc....

As far as a routine is concerned you already hit on the stretching part. You need to concentrate on flexibility. A long flowing swing is better than a short choppy swing. Also, what do you constantly hear about pros and injuries? BACK PROBLEMS!!! Strengthen your lower back and abs to give good support to your upper body and prevent injury. Lastly, squats. Your power should come from the ground up. Squats will help strengthen your lower back and also give you a good base from which to start your downswing.

Rules? You mean we have RULES for that???

You should not "switch" to cardio, just add cardio to your current routine. How is your diet?

Hi Prince,

Because of work my training and diet aren't as good as they could be, what I am trying to get into is Mon/Thurs resistance and tue/Fri cardio.

As for diet , it's pretty bad, any tips would be helpful. Urls etc would be appreciated sp?

I try to not have sugar in tea , but I can't really eat bread and yeast products.

Rich

Thanks for that Prince,

my diet runs soemthing like this...

6.30 7.00 Cup of tea

12:00 Lunch - 4 sandwiches & pack of crisps bottle of water 500ml

19:00 dinner - usually junk, pasta, chips

I try to train in the morning before work.

I have approx 6-8 cups of tea through the day.

I am really looking for meal plans or some sort of rough guidelines from which I can start to get myself back on track.

I tend to feel hungry most of the time, which may be dehydration?

Rich

That is not good! You need to eat breakfast, some protein, carbs and fat.

12:00 Lunch - 4 sandwiches & pack of crisps bottle of water 500ml
What kind of sandwiches? That is a lot to eat in one meal.

19:00 dinner - usually junk, pasta, chips
Junk, Why? Pasta is fine, but protein is needed.

I have approx 6-8 cups of tea through the day.
Why do you drink so much tea? Replace with water!

I am really looking for meal plans or some sort of rough guidelines from which I can start to get myself back on track.
Try eating 5-6 small meals that contain protein, carbs and fat.

I tend to feel hungry most of the time
I believe that.

which may be dehydration?
Lack of water and too much tea (caffeine)

What would be best for breakfast? I wake up 5:30-6:00 and try to get to the gym for 7:00-7:30 so can't eat too much before I train.

The sandwiches tend to be chicken and ham/cheese i want to try and cut these out though as they are a) expensive and b) bread doesn't agree, but finding a suitable alterative isn't easy. Ideas welcome.

I think from what you are saying is basically cut all caffine - decaf or water?

The routine shown doesn't have deadlifts in, that surprises me...

A protein shake/MRP...

Sandwiches are okay, but four in one sitting?

No, but cut down on it and add more water.

Yeah, you could add them on leg or back day. I don't do deads, so I did not put them in the routine.

Do you recommend any MRP/Protein shakes?
Myoplex/Labrada/MaxiMuscle?

The 4 sandwiches is rounds of bread but it probably would make sense to split them into 2 to spread the food a little more.

what sort of food do you eat for lunch? I only have a fridge at work so it has to be cold and prefereably not bread/egg based.

I will give the routine a try and see how it goes.

thanks for your help and advice.

Rich

Cardio: No (I feel that cardio hinders gains)

Abs: 1-2 times per week, whenever.

Ditto on the no cardio, it would only make it harder to gain.

I do abs before legs. Sounds strange, but it gets them good and tight which helps a LOT when doing squats. Ever since I started doing that I haven't had my back limit my squat routine.

Rules? You mean we have RULES for that???
