Front squats really blast the quads as well as hack squats. Both isolate the quads a "little" more then regular squats. Regular squats are all around leg development. I'd say to suppliment your quad training with one or both of the above along with squats. Every other workout or 3rd workout,, replace regular squats with one of those.

I also forgot to mention, if you place a small plate under your heels during normal squats it isolates the quad a bit better. Just be cautious because it may be hard to balance at first.

alright, yeah i do all those exercises. my leg mass is good. maybe i should have phrased the question differently. are there any techniques or anything that will help put a greater emphasis on the vastus lateralis?

Vastus Lateralis,,,, see my post above it still stands true. I would say one thing,, on Hack squats keep feet stright forward and slightly less then shoulder width. Same with Leg presses. Lunges will also help with that area as well as the rest of the quads and glutes.

I dunno, I experience nice overall quad development doing full, ass-to-the-grass squats with higher reps (8-10) and sets (I do 8-10 sets as well), but that's just me. It kills your hams and glutes as well...

Peace.

No question about that Premo. I couldn't agree more to overall leg development. I give you an A for your response. this young man is just trying to find other excercises to possibly isolate the outer quad a bit more. As you and I know, Isolating any singe quad muscle is next to impossible but the few I mentioned will give him some extra pain up in the front. Peace/out

i agree with all the above said.....

to "focus" on outer quads, put your feet parallel and close together or point your toes slightly in on your squats/hacks/fronts/leg press

You're a funny guy, Sully, I like you. Dat's why I'm going to kill you lahst.
