Bench Press help!
when i was doing my first free weight bench press(i used to do it on a smith machine), as i was putting the barbell back on the bench rack(those that support the barbell and it comes fitted with the bench) my fist got cut by it! it doesnt hurt much, but i find it pretty unpleasing to put the barbell back on the rack safely after doing some serious bench press and my hands are pretty fatigued to slowly and carfeully it back in place.
Any people with the same problem and any help on this? |

It depends on the bench, most are wide enough to provied space for your hands. You may have to change the position of your hands. Sounds like the racks are a bit narrow.

Success is measured not by the position that one has reached in life, rather by the obstacles which one has overcome while trying to succeed.

Yep, depends on the bench. Most quality olympic style benches wont bother folks.

I think he may be using a store bought bench in his home gym. Like the ones that weider makes.....those things always used to tear up my knuckles when I was a youngster as well.

My friend has a bench like that as well. I have problems with it if I ever try to lift with him at his house. He just adjusted his hand positioning accordingly...

If it is not an olympic bench, just be careful when re-racking it (easier said that done after a tough set) Personally id just invest in something a little wider and if ur hands r still getting cut up then the grip is just a little too wide.

I had a standard width bench from years ago, crappy crappy padding, would tip over with 200+ on the bar, overall it sucked and STILL cost $299 from what I recall.
Olympic benches rule when made well and prices are NOTHING like what they were years ago, NOTHING. |
