Lean Muscle
BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS High Quality Supplements For Bodybuilders and Athletes. www.ironmaglabs.com Ok I'm just starting out and I've posted a few times and was told to read on and come back when I have questions so here I am. Most of everything I've read explains how to bulk up and get huge but what if I don't want to be that big. I don't want to be the huge muscle man I just want to have lean muscle more like a boxer would have as opposed to Romanowski. Any advice? I was told that I'm actually a pretty good weight for my age and height (175lbs, 17years old, about 6') I just need to build muscle instead of being a lazy fatass
. Also I was wondering when I work out a certain muscle group about how many excersises should I do for that specific muscle like biceps for instance. Thx for all the help. |

I don't think you are going to make very many friends in here man, but welcome anyways.... first of all you don't want big muscles but you want lean muscle mass, still you have to do the same shit as us "MEATHEADS" do day in and day out which is hard work, lifting weights, good diet etc....... the only thing thants difference is that us "MEATHEADS" don't stop working to perfectionize our bodys. And you say that you dont want to be a lazy fat ass, ??? Hmmmm, somehow i think you mean us when you say that, but even if you dont mean that i still think that you think that you are somehow better than us by not being huge and "NASTY" like us.... i dunno man, good luck in here.....

Scames, just work out like all the "meatheads" do, and when you feel you've reached that level where you want to stay, stop working out as intensly and maintain that physique. But here is the trick... once you develop this habbit of going to the gym regularly and see what you can really do with your self, you will never be really satisfied and there will always be more that you'r gonna want to acomplish. Before you know it you will become a "meathead" because it becomes an addiction, and you'll realize that it's NEVER really enough... MUAHAHAHAHA!!!

Question Guy that's not at all what I meant. I meant ME when I said lazy fatass cause thats what I am at the moment. I'm sorry if I was taken the wrong way. I don't mean to be offensive. Just because I don't want to be the nexy Mr. Universe shouldn't make you angry. All I was wondering is how to get lean muscle mass when excersising instead of bulk that's all. Again, sorry if I offended anyone.

I am just learning too so don't rely on what I have to say as gold.
From what I have read, building strength before mass requires less reps per set. So if you are benching 135x12 and that is all you can do, do a weight that you can only get up say 6 times. That should build lean mass as opposed to a bigger, less strong muscle. Also, rest longer between sets. More than 3 minutes. |

I owuld go even lower than 6 reps if I was just building strength. I would try and hit triples and doubles and rest a min. of 3 min. per set. The 2-3 rep range is where you are going to see the most myfibriliar hypertrophy and strength gains. |

I think you're putting the cart before the horse a little. You want lean mass but you don't want to get bigger. By gaining lean mass to a certain extent you are going to get bigger. If you keep your training sound and use your diet to manipulate your body composition how you want it you can easily get the physique you want without getting huge.
BTW, it takes years and lots of food to get "that big" - trust me when I say that you would have to add about 30 pounds of lean mass onto your frame to actually look big - and that could take you a year or more. I outweigh you by 10 lbs and I'm still pretty small at 5'11" |

I didn't see anything offensive about your original post at all. If your are new to working out, especially at your age, you will see tremendous gains in strength and mass in a relatively short period of time (6 months to a year).
For pure strength you want to do reps in the 1-4 range. My suggestion however is to mix it up to keep from getting stale. Nothing will burn you out or cause overtraining quicker then doing too many heavy singles, doubles and triples. See GoPro's Power-Rep Range- Shock workout here... http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/article65.html Seriously bulking up is more a function of diet then it is the particular rep range choosen. To get really huge requires a massive intake of calories. You would probably be best served by using 'maintenance calories' on the high end of the scale. See Jodi's excellent sticky "Guide to Cutting, Bulking & Maintenance". http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/sh...threadid=21113 (Guide to Cutting, Bulking & Maintenance) |
