I've never read it... i had always assumed that something written that long ago cant be very relevant now. Do you think its something worth reading, still? What makes it outdated?

Just make sure that you have the same genetics as Arnold and the same drugs!

Come on guys, let's hear the criticism........

Personally, i think its a great book. Then again, Arnold is my fav., so i guess that makes me kinda biased. Everything is pretty much not outdated except for workout routine which he suggests for everyone.............2 w.o.'s/day, each bp 3x's/week. Other than that, its pretty much exactly what it says on its cover.........The bible of bodybuilding......

i think its a cool book. good for beginners. But you'd have to be crazy to follow his workout routines. 2 day splits, high volume, bodyparts trained 2-3 times per week minimum. kind of overkill, unless as mentioned you got the drugs and/or genetics for it.

Although its outdated its still better than all the other "scientific" bodybuilding books out there like power-factor training and HIT, which are basically do 2 reps of squats 3 reps of deads rest 45 days.

Foreman_Rules could masturbate with one hand and finger his own anus with the other at the same time.

he is proud of this fact.

I have it right by my bed on my bedstand. It is the king of bodybuilding books in my opinion, straight from the best body builder of all time.

I don't think his workout routines are overkill or overtraining either. I think they are reflective of someone dedicated to body building. People are lazy now, pumping up on roids, creatine, and hydroxycut rather than getting back to the basics: work your tail off in the gym. Regardless of whether you follow his routines, it is a great reference to have and can teach you a lot about form.

Guys just looking at some of the reply's regarding it being old...which book are we talking about? if I'm right there was the original wrote way back when, but there is also a new and revised addition which is the one I've got? I've never seen the original but the new one seems very up to date?

S.O.S. I got my book from http://www.amazon.co.uk but the US amazon does it aswell! The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding

ya its got some good exercises, but arnie pisses me off some times. Especially his section on steroids where he basically bashes them and says they are bad and dont take them. stupid thing is every single guy in that book is on roids and wouldnt be that big if they weren't. I also dont think much of his diets (again maybe if your on roids thats all you need to eat, but otherwise...). He is good on telling you which exercises will have what effect on sculpting your body and thats really useful

It was a good book for a read. But I do have to say its definitely an overkill for a lot of people. That being said, if you like it, try it

Remember Arnold didnt rely a whole lot on scientific data to do his workouts, he just did them by what he felt and what worked. ( And obviously it worked for him), but then again, If i were on that much juice, I could get huge from riding a bike ..heh

And nothing wrong with HIT, heh It was a great program, and I incorporate it in my workouts many times during the year. My brother does nothing but HIT year round, and hes 6' 240 with a 515 deadlift, 315lb bench, and a 345 lb squat at only 19 years old. Not bad for a guy whos been working out only 2 years.

I have thumbed through it a couple of times at the bookstore or at freinds houses. Always end up putting it back down. Other than entertainment value, I personally have no use for it......that is just my opinion.

I dont get it when people say arnold is the best ever. Sure he was the man back in the 70`s and early 80`s but now he could not beat the best like ronnie coleman. Also kind of makes me wonder when people say that about other sports like football/boxing. Sure Ali was good back then but Lennox would rape him now so how can he be the best ever?

i've said it a million times before, and i'll prob. have to say it a million times again..............the #1 reason he doesnt say he took steroids is b/c he knows what kind of effect it would have on people. EVERY BB, their mother, father, grandparents and kids would try juice. Arnold knows he's like one of the most popular and influencial people in the world, nevermind in BB, where is KING. and he does not openly say he took steroids cuz he knows the consequences. I actually have a greater respect for him because of that. Besides, everyone thinks they can get that big from just "taking the same amount of steroids as them". Thats BS.

No offense, but if someone were to take steroids just because Arnold took steroids, then they aren't thinking it through well enough.

maybe you need to watch Pumping Iron to understand.

even in this day and age Arnold's upper body would be serious competition, and given that if he were around today he would be doing drugs at the same level as today's pros, he would probably be unbeatable.

Yeah i just saw pumping iron thats why i posted my last comment. For the record i think Arnolds body looks better than Ronnie in the classical sense but when it comes to musculature Ronnie is just a FREAK.
