What do you hate about your gym experience?

When I go to the gym, it's like my second job. I take it serious and I expect results from my investment and time. But, when people are standing around talking and I have to wait for them to use the equipment, it drives me crazy.

    What about you?

I hate the music they play. Also seeing people on the bikes pedaling slow and reading a book. What kind of workout are getting out of that.

yes, I cannot stand the majority of people there, unfortunately my only choice is our local rec center, if I am not there I work out at home.... of course at home I am limited with equipment.

All the newbies that pop up after New Year's. They stay for about two months then drop off like flyes. They just get inthe way when they stand around chit chatting.

Mostly the music, but I must say it's the people who don't know what they're doing (poor form mostly, etc.) that I feel sorry for. They're there with these huge grins, flailing away, and smiling like they've discovered the secret to bread-loaf biceps, whereas they're mostly wasting their time.

I'm not particularly big myself, but I do consider myself very well informed after a year reading this website - but my lack of large size muscles is genetic related. We ectos are a feeble lot

I'd say something to the obvious nincompoops, but I think I'd get whacked with a dumbell

the thing I hate most about my gym is that I am a personal trainer there also. So, not only am I always there, either to work or trian myself, but people want to stare at you while you workout or ask you questions and talk forever......wish I had enough money to go to another gym to train.

In no particular order..........(talking about my school gym.....my gym @ home is great)

-Spring Breakers and how ridiculously packed they make the gym @ school. so bad in fact we actually have to wait sometimes in a line that forms to even get into 1 of the 2 weight rooms.

-the floor is filthy, and they only clean it at night for the next morning. so when i go to do calf presses my feet slip all over the place

-it is soooooo hot in the weight part of the gym

-clowns that have no idea what they are doing

-people looking at me when i train

geez, i guess i have alot of complaints.......

    oh, and get this...

some kid actually hit me in the head with a weight.

i was sitting on the end of a bench hanging my head with my eyes closed trying to pump myself up when i actually feel a fuckin weight hit my head. i look up, and this kid is like "oh sorry".

it took all my self control to not get up and knock the kid out.
i mean it didnt hurt, but its the mere principal of the whole situation.

Well it's ok for women to watch isn't it?

    I hate:
    * Wiping ther people's sweat off machines with MY towel.

    * Seeing people leave the toilet without washing their friggin hands.

    most of all:
    * People biult like greyhounds who deliberately accentuate their
size by holding their arms out from their waist like the fags that they are.

    -The music!
-The kids coming in a few months before summer wanting to get jacked!
-People who slam weights everywhere when they had no buisness lifting half that amount up! Hey I'm not the biggest guy and I don't put up massive amounts of weight, but what I do put up is humble. I don't walk around like a fool slammin shit thinkin I'm cool, that really pisses me off.

Now there is one thing that bothers me but I see both sides to it. I been at my gym almost a year now (use to workout at home) and I dont expect any respect yet. But I hate that all the vet's will do as they please, interupt my sets, and just think they can run the place. Hell they were the new guy at one point and I am just tryin to do what they are. So what if I'm not as ripped as they are. But then again I see where they are comin from with me bein new to that gym and all. But thats the least of my worries.

Art you hit the nail right on the head!

I also hate when between sets, I step to get some water only to look up and someone has jumped on the bench or machine I was just using and they act like they didn't see me on it the first time.

Waddya mean interrupt your sets DeadBolt?

Don't let some dumbass throw you off a machine if you pay as
much as they do for it's use.

If I get on a machine, it's mine until I get off it.

I rarely use machiens mostly free weights, but if I'm in there workin and kickin ass they always find a reason to block me. Pull the bench rite up on the rack and get in the way, use my weights in between my sets then talk for an hour with them. The worse is they walk by and graze my arms when doing military presses, pull overs, skull crushers, etc... But what bothers me is when I'm workin out with my cousin whoes been going there for 11 years now they are nicer than ever. When I'm by myself though they are dicks. Some of them have seen I work hard at it and give me the benefit of the doubt b/c of my gains but others just dont give a shit. It bothers the hell outa me but theres nothing I can do, except go heavier most of the time.

I know what you mean DeadBolt, but from a different prospective. I workout a Ballys, it is the first gym I've ever joined. I joined back in 1986 at the age of 16, I left to go to GET FIT (gym) in 92 (mainly because it was open 24hrs a day), and now I'm back at Ballys (Oct 2003).

I see the same guys, doing the same thing and looking the same as when I left. I weighed about 215 when I left but now I'm 235 and they want even speak. But I don't let it bother me too much.

Yea I use to let it bother me in the begining but now I just sorta blow it off. If I'm havin a bad day it really pisses me off and kills my workouts but when I'm just norm I'll switch my workout so I am always doing soemthing they are not. I do have to thank em though, I have gotten stronger forcing myself to go heavy heh.

When I'm with my cousin I say hi to em out of respect of him, when I'm by myself I'll say something just because I don't want enemies. But I don't "chat" like they do, I go to the gym for one reason and one reason only, to workout not chat like house wives.

As long as the gym isn't too crowded, I don't mind it. The main problem I have is hot girls wear spandex distracting me while I'm trying to concentrate on lifting.

I hate the people who leave their weights on the bar. Even if its a light weight I still have to take time out of my workout to pull their's off and load mine up. Be courteous and unload your weight. Also the people that just but the plates or dumbbells where ever is convenient. Somedays its like the search for the Holy Grail to find the right weight.

    Oh, and the music

    I like this thread ...

I'm with supertech ... Old men with cottage cheese bodies and no shame, just walking holding conversations in middle of lockeroom ... I walk in, motivated as hell to do damage and the first thing I see are rumpled asses .. not good ..LOL!

I hate the music, I also don't like all the talking at machines of elections, sports, my daughter's ballet class, etc. SHUT UP! and work out.

I recently joined a new private gym (I had belong to Bally's since 1991) and I was losing it ... Broken machines, that stupid loud speaker system with idiots making all type of announcements (with no sense of tone discretion), parking lot limitations, unwanted leery glances in steam room ... I could just go on and one ...

carl68, your right on, Ballys has the same equipment it used in the 80s, with exception of its cardio equipment. The only reason I'm there is that I pay only $07.00 a month, but they just out right suck bro!
