Noise while Training

I was in the gym this morning doing shoulders. The main level has cardio and weight machines with a few benches, shoulder pressses and weight racks. The basement (dungeon ) is all free weights. Well I was downstairs doing presses when the entire ceiling shook. Looking up at the ceiling, I was hoping no one hurt themselves. To my surprise this happened two more times while I was down there. I was half expecting to see a loaded barbell come crashing down it made so much noise.

Finishing my free-weight sets, I decided to do work on my rear delts by sitting reverse on the peck deck located upstairs. Here, I see the culprit. Some guy, I would say at about 5'11, weighing anywhere between 200-220, no defintion (looked soft) was running around the gym, doing shoulder presses and super-setting with upright rows.

Everytime he lifted he would scream. Now, I lift heavy as well and undertstand that there are moments at the end of the set where you just have to let out some noise while trying to squeeze that last rep out, but this guy seemed to be looking for attention (you guys know what i am talking about). When done with his set he would simply let go of the weights. He must have learned how to do upright rows by watching a rocking chair because that is how his body was moving everytime the weight went from his midsection to the lower part of his chest. Needless, to say he looked ridiculous.

To top it off, between sets he came over to talk to this guy working out near me. I overheard him saying that he was feeling strong today and was on some new program that gave him all this enrgy. Riiiiight!

I normally don't pay attention to people like this but the rukus this guy was making made it pretty difficult. I don't undertsand why gym personel did not ask him to take it easy since it was clearly obvious that this guy was putting on a show (maybe they found it entertaining instead of annoying )

Anyone have any similar stories.

I do that sometimes, but in a joking manner with my friends. I workout at home. My house is a social hub for a lot the people in my group of friends. Sometimes I lift while people are there if my brother is available to entertain them simultaneously. Sometimes I will yell "MUST GET PUSSY!" really loud when I am finishing off a tough set. It actually seems to help...

I was at the gym the other day, and I waited 30 minutes to get the Smith machine for shoulder, while this 5'6 150 lb nobody was doing these....I have to call them "retard squats". He would rack up a whopping 25 on both sides, then put his feet all the way in front of him against the support bar, so it was like he was laying on an incline bench, then he would do about a half squat looking thing for 10 solid boring reps. He did this 6 times!

GOD! ARGH.

sadly, I have many of these stories.

where to begin???

There is one guy who does the 2" range of motion work out. Then gets on the bench on his free weights days and struggles to rep 95 lbs.

There is this Barbie that constantly looks in the mirror. she waits for the treadmill closest to the mirrors. She incessantly picks her teeth looking at her butt in the mirror.

There there is the usual smattering of 18-21 yr olds, grunting like they are power lifting in the Olympics trying to bench 135 pounds. Not sure when two 45's gave you the right to curse F*** YEAH!! after getting one up. But, I must concede that last Saturday, between the 3 of them they got 2 up.

we have one competition worthy lifter at my gym. He is a class act and does his best not to slam stuff and is always approachable. Too bad the little ones are not more like him.

Hey, I think I know that guy!!!

No, seriously though, there used to be a guy like that here at my school- he screamed like his head was exploding every rep of every lift

it was the most annoying thing in the world, and it would echo throughout the gym. I could only imagine what it felt like to be the guy he was lifting with.

Very annoying- but the worst possible person in the gym is the guy who talks down to everyone else just because of his overblown ego

Hey sorry ghost. I didn't know I was making that much noise. I'll try to keep it down next time! J/K

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. It is true that there are guys like this in every gym. I guess it helps to break the routine up.

A L O N G time ago....11 years to be exact..I did the screaming thing. I thought I was the shizzle! I was DB benching 50's!
I was da man! and everyone in the gym knew it!

It lasted one set..my friend spotting me, looked at me like I was the biggest moron...that was all it took....
true story.

Same thing...saw this fat guy...screaming...with 30's on incline db bench....
Maybe he was burning down from a much higher weight...but still....

I like hearing people fart really loud when they are pushing hard on squats or leg presses. Sometimes I laugh so hard I have to leave the room.

There are a million things i could get "upset" about at my school gym like you guys are talking about

*National chest day-Mon (95% of the kids that go that day do chest)
*National bi's day-Tues (95% do bi's)
(repeat National chest day on wed, fri, sun
repeat National bi day on Thurs, Sat)
*95%of the kids in their have NO idea what they're doing
*they bring their cell phones and talk during sets to their "partner"

Bottom line....i've learned to ignore the clowns at that circus. If i didnt, i would end up killing somebody.

grunting is ok, if isn't too audible.

well, most of the kids there are pussies anyways.

there are only a handful or so of "big" guys, and i pretty much know all of 'em.

so when we're squatting 400 or leg pressin' 8 or 9 45's on each side and happen to "grunt" a little when pushing out those last few reps, NO ONE is gonna say anything to us haha

besides my legs being one of my best bp's, i think one of the reasons i love doing legs is cuz 95% of kids there don't do legs.

so when me and my buddy (who's a big m'fer) are moving some weight, kids look at us in awe.

when in reality, if any of them were to come to my gym at home, my buddy and i would not even be close to the biggest/strongest guys....

I've done 6 partial reps @ 405...
set the safety bars so I can only go so far..then go for it. GAWD, that was HEAVY!

ya, i set the "safety" bar too, but low enough so i can go ALL the way down. i dont believe in "partial" squats, IMO doesnt do anything.

the last rep though, i was gonna try for 7, and my back started leaning forward. i knew it was time to end the set after that....

but still, no matter how heavy your set is, make sure you yell afterwards "LIGHT WEIGHT".
