Need help increasing nbr of push-ups

In 1- 2 months I will be taking a PT test where one event is a maximum nuber of continuous push-ups. Right now I am not happy with the number that I can perform and need to quickly increase that number.
I'm limited to 2 workout per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, because I am running 3 days a week to get ready for other events.

My current routine looks like this:

Sit-ups ( 3-5 sets, 60 reps)
Pushups (3-5 sets, 25-35 reps)
Machine Press (3-5 sets, 20-25 reps)
Pull-ups (4 sets, 6-10 reps)
Pull-downs (3 sets, 8-10 reps)
Rows (2-3 sets, 8-10 reps)
Back extensions (2 sets, 50 reps)

I'm thinking of adding a couple sets of either french curls or tricep extensions or something else if it will help.

Any ideas on the best excersies to increase the number of reps? Right now I could probably do 40 or so reps, but I'm shooting for a minimum of 50 at the time of the test.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Try a modified version of that program. Also, do some intense cardio. If you can drop a few pounds then you can probably do a few more pushups.

My suggestion would be to drop the set and do continuous push-ups. The total number is part strength and part endurance. When you do 1 day of continuous you will have a number "Lets say 50" then on the second day add "1" no matter how hard you have to push.

Also I would take them out of my workouts and just make them first thing every day. You would add about 5-7 reps per week that way, increasing the muscle endurance.

well, i dont know if this helps.......

i played freshman bb as a freshman in h.s. (obviously), before i ever started lifting. our coach was a former marine, and he used to have us do 50 pushups everyday. once bball season ended, i'd do 50 pushups every morning before school. then gradually i could do a few more and a few more in that one set every day until i got up to like 70.

now, my chest is one of, if not my best bp's......dont' know if that had anything ot do with it, but i think it does.......

So far I've got three replies recommending that I do push-ups every day.

Doesn't that go against the theory that each muscle group needs at least 48 hours rest between workouts?

ive heard pushups and situps are fine everyday... its not the same type of exercise. i think the high weight to failure exercises require more rest. im not expert tho... any second opinions?
