    Talking Cut and Mass

Can both be accomplished at the same time? If so, how? Also, what if I was to go on a diet, eat less food, and the food that I eat is more healthy, and i do cardio and lift. Can I lose fat and gain muscle?

You cannot lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. The best you can do is lose fat and maintain muscle. If you want the ripped look then your going to have to sacrifise some muscle. No way around it (unless your juicing). When you go on your diet just make sure to eat quality foods and up your protein intake. Upping your protein intake will counterbalance some of the muscle loss.

    I agree with bludevil.

You should go one way or the other, unless you're on "something", it's almost impossible to get lean and gain size simultaneously.

I think it depends on your time frame. A person can go from 185 pounds 20% body fat (i.e. 37 fat and 148 muscle) to 185 pounds 10% body fat (i.e 18.5 fat, 166.5 muscle) in 12 months. That is gaining muscle mass, while getting fairly lean.

However, if you are talking about shorter time periods, I agree with Prince, and Bludevil.

    Question

Is there any real point of lifting heavy while dieting and getting cut then? Will you make gains in strength but not size?

I did this before (meaning eating little but lifting very heavy weights) and quite frankly it didn't work for me. Cause if you wanna powerlift and gain more muscles, eating sufficently (but the right food) is needed. So my advise for you is this. Either you make up your mind and turn your current mass to muscles, or go for a 100% diet plan and lose the weight. If not, lose a little weight first, than do some cutting.

Ive lost 13 pounds over the last 3 months and got 300 on bench for 2 wich I could never before. Of course I never really watched what I ate before coming here. But I know I dont eat as much as I did. I dont know if this means anything but I just thought I would through that out there.

I disagree, for the last 3 months I have slowly cut my body fat yet gained size. My weight has averaged 195 to 200. My waist has went from 34 to 33 and I am seeing a definite gain in size(legs and chest) I have been using a fat burner and eating a relativly clean diet. I am not saying I am cut by any means but have lost most of the fat around my waist and still gained size so it is possible. Now if I hit the diet harder I am sure I would lose some muscle. That is why I perfer NOT going one way or the other, but rather taking the middle ground.

Go to the Medline website. There are atleast 11 published papers that prove that it is not only possible, but that it has been done in both trained and untrained individuals.Of special interest are the findings of W. Kraemer. This guy really knows what he is talking about.Hope this helps.

I will agree to some extent that yes, you can lost bodyfat and gain muscle at the same time but under 2 conditions:
    1 - Your a newbie
2 - Your on the gear

I think a seasoned weightlifter will not be able to do both at the same time. Just my opinion though.
