Training ?

HI all ive allways been told and seen on the net that 3 days a week is the normal bulk routine for putting on muscle and most likley to have a secess but this bloke at the gym is massive he looks natural and he says he eats about 5000 calories per day with strict diet spaced out. he says do this and you can train 7 times a week.

He trains 7 times a week and hes massive so is the 3 day routine aload of rubbish but to just help newbies ?

It depends how you split it up. Anywhere from 3-5 days seems appropriate. 4 days seems to be the most popular split among the people on these forums. You just have to do less in one workout if you lift 5 days a week as opposed to 3.

I don't know how your friend can get away with training 7 days a week unless he is on steroids or lots of steroid-like supplements, he lifts for maybe 30 minutes each day, he incorporates a deloading phase and frequent resting into his routine, or he has very good genetics.

^^^^He may consider cardio training. If I were to throw in a cardio and ab day twice a week in between my 5 day split I could consider it a 7 day split. I just add my abs and occasional cardio at the end of a workout. But if he is like doubling a body part twice a week going 7 days in a row with no rest god bless him. Gees I would die.

As for the direct question, his massiveness could be a multitude of things. How long has he been lifting for? You don't get big overnight. A routine that works for him may not work for everyone else, you need to find what works best for you and run with it. If you can train more then others without overtraining go for it. I personaly have figured out if I run hardcore 5 days straight after time I get run down. So I mix up my 4 and 5 day split and make sure I organize my lifts accordingly.
