    Time between Sets

Over the past ~year I've been taking only 1 minute between sets, and 2 mins between different exercises.

We all know to gain mass, you need to push heavy weight. Therefor, would it be beneficial to take longer between sets (2-3 mins) to allow the muscle to recoup more so you can hit heavier weights? I did this a couple times this week, and was able to go up in weight or reps on most exercises.

    Thanks for your input.

IMO -- The heavier you lift, the longer "rest" period you should take. Max 3 min & least 1 min.

Don't feel guilty or that you're not accomplishing your goal if you rest 2-3min.

I hardly every rest 2 mins between dif. exercises. That's me though. Everyone is dif.

I agree. You have to get your strength back to lift heavy. Your body needs time to rebuild atp and stablize.

What do you recommend in between sets Scott? What ever you're doing is obviously working, so maybe I'll try it.

Honestly I don't even look at the clock. I just wait till I feel ready to go again when my breathing is normal and I feel strong. It depends on the exercize and the weight. Squats and Deadlifts will take longer than Curls or Side laterals. I do most everything by feel.

Heavier weight will require longer rest.

    Lighter weight, shorter rest.

A lot of it also depends on your goals and so forth. Obviously endurance would require shorter rest periods, while mass would require longer ones.

I look at the clock because if I go by "feeling" I will have an injurie really fast. I really wanna start again after I finish the set.
So, I usualy take 2 mins.

I take between 3 and 8 minutes between sets. I'm just getting back from a year long break though. When I was in my prime, 2-4 minutes was the norm.

I don't look at the clock either. So these are just estimates.

Right now I am training for a bb contest so my rest interval is by feel and pretty instictual. When I am power training I bring my watch and time all my rest intervals. When hitting triples and doubles it is 3min minimum and sometimes as long as 5 min.
