take a wider grip
The last couple of bicep workouts I have had, my forearms have started hurting after barbell curls. What is hurting exactly and will it go away?
I have a curl bar but I read alot that bb curls are better.

Thanks, I will try that. I do grip it a bit narrow. Usually about 10" apart.

sometimes a narrow grip will hurt ur wrists..depends on the individual...i use to have that problem then i took a wide ass grip and the problem went away

My wrists don't hurt, just my forearms.Originally posted by oaktownboy

i have the same problem when using the barbell for curls, widening the grip didnt work for me so i just us a ez curl bar
Your grip should be as wide as your shoulders. 10 inches apart will work your outer forearms good though. Some people even grip outside or wider than shoulder width which I would assume works the inner forearms to a greater degree. Its good practice to change around your grips.
As far as your pain goes. No pain...
If it's hurting, let it hurt. If you go wider with straight bar your ROM is affected a great deal. I just keep my arms at my side, and perform a normal standing curl.

Let it hurt? Everything I did today using my arms hurt. Not unbearable but aggravating. It isn't a good hurt. I was wondering if I am damaging something.

rest for a few days sounds like good therapy to me....
work with dumbells or ez bars instead of bb...
Pain is just another Pass

Alright. I am going to use a wider grip next time and if it still hurts, then I will try a different bar.
Thanks.

I'm right there with you. I have tiny little nones, so I know the pain of fore-arms.
I keep my arms pretty much at my sides during BB curls, and my forearms hurt like hell when I finally put the bar down. I know my form is proper, so I do *not* understand this.
As a result, I pretty much am doing incline dumb-bell curls only, with some pulleys to finish them off.
Maybe you might try that for awhile. I heard the EZ bar somehow interferes with working the biceps properly.![]()

Man, my arms are still hurting. Long after my biceps were sore.
I heard the same thing about the ez bar too but if it helps with this, I may start using it.

Yeah it hurts mine, but it goes away not to big of a deal.
so, you say your wrists hurt huh?
His wrists DONT hurt... Retards.
I know what your talking about. It is almost liek a shin splint, but in the forearm. Just dont do straight BB curls for a few weeks. You need to let your arms heal. Try incline DB curls, and stay away from bars untill your arms feel better.

Do you workout your forearms on a regular basis?

are your forearms sore? Or is it a different type of pain (like strained/sprained etc)?

No I haven't added a regular forearm workout to my split yet, but will be soon.
And Yanick, it isn't a soreness like I worked them. It just aches like I actually hurt something. It is about 50 percent gone right now. I am avoiding the barbell for now but substituting other exercises for it.

i know exactly what youre talking about, my forearms KILL me when i do dumbell flys. worst pain ever. also, the muscle on the outside palm of my hand that runs between the pinky and the wrist hurts unbearably when i do dumbell flys. i'm concerned. the skin on my forearms is stretched very tight, so is it possible for the muscle to even grow, since it has no room?
So then is it your wrists that are bothering you?

Is it like a shooting pain (not muscular in nature) running up your forearms?Originally posted by Michael D

Maybe I should break my wrists to make you guys happy
Jezziah, I am terrible at describing a feeling. It feels like it is the bone hurting. When your palm is facing up, it is in the middle of the bottom of my arm. "Between" the bottom and top forearm muscles.

straight bar curls are horrible... i've got to the point i cant do them Any more.. started putting lumps on the outside of my forearm.... but i was also doing a shot load of weight for curls... 165lbs... gonna stick with the Curl bar from now on. Get some Wrist straps and keep your wrist as motionless as possible.

The answer is simple:
Either go to a doctor (preferably a specialist) and get it checked out or quite complaining and lift the weight.![]()

I've had similar troubles and it sounds like they're not muscular in nature. If you can, definetly see a doctor. What I have done to minimize strain placed on my joints, bones, and tendons is made grip and forearm exercises part of my weekly routine. I've just started this on a regular basis so I don't know if it is going to help or not. You should definetly take a few days off so you don't risk any serious damage.
Or you can do what P-Funk said and just fucking lift.![]()

I think it's more of just growing pains than an injury. What you have to do is work through the pain. Lower the amount of weight you curl with and be a man...work through the pain.
I bet you 90% of the old timer lifters here have gone through this on many occasions. I know I have.![]()
