Being sick and taking off training.. :(

Got a bit sick on Monday, and although today (Tuesday) I feel better, I'm still not feeling 100 percent (maybe around 75), so Im going to take these two days off to make sure I'm a hundred percent.

I just HATE taking days off unscheduled.

Just poppin the Multi-Vitamin and E and C, along with plenty of OJ, fruit, tons of water and TONS of protein.

The only thing I hate about getting sick is...the frist day back in the gym.

A couple of times, my lifting buddy and I kept lifting through bad colds with no ill effects. Just remember to go 20-40% lighter.

don't worry about it bro...this is what i tell myself everytime i have to do that. Its better to take a few days off now than to take a week or two off later.

I always lose srength when taking to much time off. I still take my schedualed week off every few months but I dread doing it. But when sick I feel it is better to just take the time off so you get better faster, not worth working out sick. Your lifts just suck and it kills me mentaly when I can't perform to my fullest.

Well, I tried hitting the gym today (Wed) because I felt pretty good upon wakening. Big Mistake. I was so drained after my first 2 sets of exercises I basically had to just leave. My body was not ready to hit weights yet, and I was weak as a kitten. Need another days or two rest I believe.

    So true

I just did that to myself...I continued a workout through an injury and just got back after a week and a half off...fucking sucked.

Camaro I did the same thing this past december. I got sick for a few days then was feeling better so I went to the gym. Big mistake, I was still sick and all the working out really made me worse. I ended up being sick for another 3 weeks because I kept testing it and would never fully stay out of the gym. Now I just take the time off if I'm sick.

Yea after that whole month of being sick pretty much I decided to really watch what I was doing. I now take additional Vit C with my multi and glutamine. And when I feel like I may be dragging due to a sicknes I up the dose of em for a few days until I feel better. I never use to get sick but then again my immune system has never been worked so hard before, with me lifting so damn much now. With a combo of over training and doing it while sick man that was the worst experience of my life.

Everyone always says pay attention to your body and do what it tells you to do. When I first started hearing that I was like what the hell are they talking about. But as I started to pay attention to the way my body reacts to certain things and how it runs when I do things a certain way I realized they are so true. I now "listen" to my body and it never stears me in the wrong direction.

Vit C and all the rest of the antioxidants have never really done much for me. As a very interesting fact i used to take tons of vit c, glutamine for a while and some other antioxidants and used to get sick like 2-3 times/year (usually in the winter). This is the first winter that i have been very lax with my vitamin supplementation and surprisingly i survived the flu season and got only mildly sick a few weeks ago which took me out of the gym for about 4 days (not bad considering time off due to sickness used to be a few weeks/year).

Also, as soon as i get a tiny hint that i am sick i start hitting up that NyQuil. Empirically it has been the best OTC med for me...knocks me out at night so i get a great night's sleep and usually a few days later i'm good to go. I don't even take any medications during the day-time...just a shot of NyQuil at night and it has been working wonders. I used to think that i could fight off illnesses with vit C and all that other 'natural' stuff but it just has never worked for me as well as NyQuil (its wierd cause that the ONLY med that works for me even though most of the OTC stuff is pretty much the same in terms of active ingredients).

Oh yeah, diet is very important while you are sick. I know that the last thing you want to do when really sick is eat, and when that happens i allow myself junk (not candy and shit, but i'll eat stuff that isn't really clean, like white rice and a few cookies here and there ) as long as i get my protein in. When i get sick i will literally drink like 4-5 shakes a day because i can't stomach all that chicken/beef/tuna that i eat when i am healthy.

Just be happy it isn't anything serious. I hurt my shoulder about 2 years ago and couldn't lift hardly any weight. I was out for about 4 months, it was terrible.
