Can I break the barbell ?

I am worried about the future. I am pretty sure that the barbell in my gym canīt hold that much weight.
Is there a standard that every barbell follows ? Thanks

I dont think you have to worry too much. If people are benching in the 800's and deadlifting in the 900's, then I think youll be ok

Mine started bending under 400, the silver paint chipped off too and jabbed me in the neck. If it breaks I'll sue Weider if it doesn't kill me.

My dumbell fell apart one day doing pullovers, so I welded it back together.

If some guy puts on 6 big plates (585lbs) and slams it down onto the bench supports it could bend the bar. Iv'e seen bent bars in the many gyms I worked out in.

If it is a shitty bar then it will bend which will mess you up when you bench because it has a tendency to roll. This happened to me close grip benching 225 before I knew the bar was bent (stupid me I should have checked), the bar twisted and i dropped it on my chest!!! Also, a bent bar is going to effect force distribution during your squat, especially if the weight is heavy, as gravity will impact it differently and the bar will give a litle bounce on your back. the only bar I trust in the gym now is the Texas Power Bar, it is built really sturdy.

Fellas right now are benching around 900lbs and holding up, so I don't think you have to much to worry about.

All barbells are not created equal. I have one at home that started bending (flexing, actually) at around 400 lbs. I have since bought a second bar (1500 lb test) and that one won't be bending any time soon.

I nearly fucked up my rotator cuff and basically my entire shoulder area when I performed a power clean on a faulty barbell. Basically half of it broke off, the plates on that size fell off, creating a severe imbalance as I started the pull, nearly pulling my shoulder out of its socket. Needless to say it wasn't such a fun experience.

    Peace.

I hate bent bars, most Olympic bars are good to around 500 pounds. I had to drop a bar last night when doing bent over rows because of torsion twist action taking it out of my hands. I picked it up and finished 2 more reps but it really bugs me.

I always roll the bars before I use them, this one was so slight I could not tell until I had weight on it. I know most of the bars in my gym by now.

Much more likely heat treatment, the bars are not thicker, unless used in competitions where a specified thickness of bar is called for. Example a 2" dumbell one arm curl.
